i m doing my bcom in 2 year nd afterwards i would like to give upsc exam but the question comes can i apply for prelims 2022 during my 3 year of graduation??

Anuj More 17th Jan, 2021

Dear Aspirant,

Kindly let this be known that you can't attempt to sit for UPSC exam until you have your graduation degree. Once you complete your graduation, you are eligible to give the UPSC exam. So keeping that in mind, fill the form when you'll complete your graduation. In the meantime you can prepare for the exam & get yourself started for many people, it'll give you a headstart over other candidates. Find your optional, classes (if you are thinking of them) & the direction you need to prepare for.

Thanks.

sir i want to give UPSC exam and in addition i want to do PhD so how can i do this

pdwords Student Expert 2nd Dec, 2020

Hello,

The eligibility criteria for upsc states candidates need to pass bachelor's degree in any discipline from a recognized university, there is no specific aggregate required in this case, you need to attain 21 years age and can apply even in the final year  of graduation, now the thing is if you plan to do upsc, pursuing higher studies don't make sense, because after graduation you'll be automatically eligible, now you can also appear for upsc after completing PhD, if you fulfill the age limit criteria, but then you have to decide what you want, in my opinion, if you're more intersted in teaching or research  career go for PhD, else you should  appear for upsc after graduation.

What book should we read first to write UPSC Exam? We are going to write the exam after the next three or four years. Now, I am reading my first year degree (BCA).

Shakti Swarupa Bhanja 26th Nov, 2020

Hello!

It may not appeal to you but the NCERT books starting from VIII standard and going up to XII are very important resources and fall under the category of 'must read' in order to crack UPSC. The topics you should cover from these NCERT books are ancient history(NCERT Class VI and Rs Sharma XI), modern history(NCERT Bipin Chandra Class XII), polity(NCERT XI and XII), economics(NCERT XI and XII, Macroeconomics), geography(NCERT VII, X, XI, XII), environment(NCERT VII and XI) and world history(NCERT story of civilization vol 1 and 2).

Apart from this, you can refer any good coaching material to cover up the general studies. You can also refer to leading newspapers for current affairs part.

You can get an elaborate guide about UPSC preparation using the link below:-

What is the UPSC exam pattern ?

chinchujoseph1993 25th Nov, 2020

Hello,

Hope you are doing good.

Coming to your question, There are three stages in the IAS selection process :

  1. Stage I: Preliminary Examination (IAS Prelims)

  2. Stage II: Mains Examination (IAS Mains)

  3. Stage III: UPSC Personality Test (IAS Interview)

IAS Prelims

It is a qualifying exam and candidates have to get a minimum of 33 % to be qualified for the Mains.Consists of 2 compulsory papers- General Ability Test (GAT) and the Civil Service Aptitude Test (CSAT). All questions are objective in nature with negative marking for each wrong answer, where One-third of marks allotted to each question is deducted for a wrong answer.

IAS Mains

It is a written descriptive examination and comprises 9 papers and these are as follows: Paper-A (Compulsory Indian Language); Paper –B (English) which are qualifying in nature, while the other papers like Essay, General Studies Papers I, II, III, and IV, and Optional Papers I and II are considered for the final ranking. Candidates who score above the prescribed cut-off marks in the IAS exam (Mains) will get the summons for the Personality Test. The final ranking is based on the marks obtained by the candidate  in the Main Examination and Personality Test/Interview Round of the IAS exam.

IAS Interview

This is a face-to-face discussion round with the board members where the candidates are assessed by the board members on their personality traits to know if they are fit for a career in the civil services or not. The UPSC personality test will be held only in the UPSC Bhavan in New Delhi.

Hope this was useful

Good luck

which group we have to take in 11th for UPSC exam?

tanoshree rana 17th Nov, 2020

Hello aspirant!
Hope you are doing well!

You can chose any stream for graduating your class 11 and 12 - arts, science, engineering, medical, economics, commerce, literature etc. All degree holders in any stream of subjects are eligible for writing the IAS exams.

There is nothing to be particular about any stream in IAS exam. The best way is  to choose subjects in which you see future. What would you like to do in future.

UPSC conducts a separate exam in 3 stages.

  • Preliminaries
  • , Mains
  • personality tests.

Only if you succeed in all the stages, you can become an IAS officer.

till class 10 you must have studied subjects such as

  • English,
  • Mathematics
  • BIOLOGY,
  • History,
  • Geography.

Take subject which interests you in class +2. After end of 1st or 2nd year , you can seriously concentrate on IAS. But, be a good student till then .

Dont let laziness take over your hardwork
