upsc exam how can do it? after 10th class.

pdwords Student Expert 27th Jul, 2022

Hello,

First of all the eligibility criteria for UPSC is passed graduation in any discipline from a recognized university, there is no specific aggregate required in this case, those in the final year of graduation too are eligible to apply, candidates need to attain 21 years as on 1st August of the appearing year,

now you cannot directly appear for UPSC after 10th standard, you need to complete your 10+2 education followed by graduation in your preferred discipline in order to appear for UPSC, you can choose any stream at 10+2 level and graduation, after 10th standard you can choose amongst science, humanities and commerce, and further need to complete graduation in a discipline of your choice, there is no such restrictions of belonging to specific stream for upsc, if you have a look at previous year toppers they come from as diverse backgrounds as that of science, engineering, medical, commerce etc, in case you have inclination towards humanities you may choose the same at 10+2 level and follow it up by graduation in subjects such as political science, economics, geography, history, sociology, public administration to name a few, as there is considerable overlap of GS and optional syllabus with these subjects, however if you want to have a back up plan then choose as per your interest such as engineering, medicine, management, law or any other professional degree courses,

UPSC Civil Service Exam consists of three stages-

Preliminary : First Stage is MCQs based exam, it has two papers and each one consists of 200 marks, its numbers ain't added to final list, you just need to score the required cut offs against your category.

First is GS Paper-I which consists of the following topic such as History of India and Indian national movement, Indian and World geography, Economic and social development- sustainable development, poverty, inclusion demographics, social sector initiatives etc,Indian polity and governance-constitution,political system,Current Events nationally and Internationally, General Science,General Issues on environmental ecology, biodiversity and climate change. you just need to score the required cut offs against your category.

Second Paper is CSAT which is qualifying by nature, you need to score merely 33% which is 66 marks out of 200, it includes following topics such as basic numeracy, comprehension, logical reasoning and analytical ability, general mental ability, decision making and problem solving, interpersonal skills including communication skills.

Mains : This is a second stage which it's more of a subjective type, you are required to write answers for Four General Studies Paper such as

  • GS-I includes Indian Heritage and Culture,History and Geography of the World and Society,
  • GS-II includes Governance, Constitution, Polity, Social Justice and International Relations,
  • GS-III includes Technology, Economic Development, Bio-Diversity, Environment, Security and Disaster Management,
  • GS-IV includes Ethics, Integrity, and Aptitude
  • Two Optionals,
  • One Essay,
  • Two Language Paper

In total there are nine papers in Mains, and each paper is of 250 marks, total adds up to 1750 marks.

Interview : Mains and Prelims are further followed by personality test comprising of 275 marks.
