Hi.

I think I am the best person to answer this question.

Industrial and production engg is sister of mechanical engineering all subjects are same but change is that the 2 topics ac&refrigrator and one more is not studied by us but studied in mechanical branch. Instead of these two we study about product management and bussiness . If you have interest in this branch then only take if you want mechanical and unable to get it then take industrial and production .

Hope this will help you ..

All the best!!!

Production Engineering is a specialised area of Mechanical Engineering. The objective of the discipline is to enable engineers to improve efficiency and effectiveness of manufacturing and service sector Industries. The curriculum includes basic mechanical engineering subjects. Some of them are engineering mechanics, the strength of materials, machine design, thermodynamics, heat transfer etc. The course makes graduates compatible with the existing and emerging needs of the industry. B.E or B.Tech in Industrial and Production. Engineering is a four-year programme. Those who have done B.E or B.Tech in Industrial and Production Engineering would understand existing technological trends and help to add new technology to the existing system. Most leading manufacturing houses look out for engineers who specialise in Industrial Production so as to reduce cost, increase efficiency and make their products marketable in the competitive era. One can pursue M.Tech in Industrial and Production Engineering after successful completion of BE/B.Tech.

For UG: Candidates must have passed 10+2 with minimum qualifying marks in aggregate with Physics, Chemistry, Mathematics as core subjects. Independent entrance tests for this programme are also held by the various state, central, and private universities which mostly require 50% as the prerequisite to appear for the test.

Job profiles available for industrial and production engineers are as follows:

Plant Engineers

Manufacturing Engineers

Quality Engineers

Process Engineers and Industrial Managers

Project Management

Manufacturing, Production and Distribution Ergonomics and Human Factors

Root cause analysis and process improvement

Make/Buy Analysis and Cost Estimation

industrial engineering is more practical and It is a good choice and a rare branch too. But what you need to know is that after you complete your studies you will only get a job in industrial and production department. You will have competition

It is a good choice and a rare branch too.

But what you need to know is that after you complete your studies you will only get a job in industrial and production department. You will have competition from other branches like mechanical. Mech students are allowed in both the above dept and many other.

So you need to clearly understand the scope before you choose it. So make your choice wisely.

Wish you good luck.
