It's a bit tough and long process.

1. First of all you give CAT exam. For giving CAT exam eligibility criteria is to have above 50% in 10th, 12tg and graduation for general, OBC category and 45% for SC/ST category.

2. After the results are announced based on your records and performance you are called for WSAT and interview round. For other private colleges you need to apply separately as your data is only shared by IIMs. This first list is made on your aggregate score which comprises of many factors such as CAT marks, 10th, 12th, graduation percentage, work experience, engineer or non engineer, gender with different weightages for different colleges.

3. After your interview round again a new and final list is made with different parameters this time including marks of interview and WSAT with different weightage for different colleges is made. Generally in final list interview and WSAT has highest weightage.

4. With the final merit list top students are offered to join their institution. If you are not in on top merit list then you will be given a rank in waiting list which moves up as students above you rejects the offer.

This list moves on with a few rounds until all seats are filled.

All the best for your preparations and exams l!!
