There are also molecular genetics and molecular hematology courses open to pathologists( one needs to have a MD degree first) in few of the premier institutes of our country. Hematology and oncology is a branch when pursued leads to a lot of genetics related work. Clinical courses would entail only its application to patients without any real laboratory work, while if one pursues Pathology or biochemistry it is possible to do laboratory work in genetics.

As far as my knowledge of geneticists with a MSc or a Phd without MBBS goes they are pretty far removed from practicalities of clinical genetics and can’t seem to comprehend the day to day problems of clinicians or laboratory specialists in doing gentics related work in hospital. There are a select few who can marry genetics with clinical nitty gritty and few who understand this kind of work but are very rare to find
