Firstly congratulation for such a good score in jee mains so that you can get admission into nit warangal .
And yes you can definitely option for material science and metallurgical engineering branch by hoping change to any branch after first year of btech as many students do it every year . I am one of then not from nit warangal but from nit bhopal but still you have to work harder and if you can managr to get a score more than 9 GPA theres high chances of your getting seat changed.

Nit warangal is a very reputed college and doing any course would give very good results.

The placements here are too good.

Later if you feel You want to chance yoir stream you can do that.

but you have to score very good cgpa for that.

Yes,  you will have an option to change your branch in the 2nd year,  but it is not as easy as it seems,  you need to be really good in academics as well as at extra curricular activities,  then only you can change your branch otherwise you will have to continue with the same branch.

First of all congratulations as you have got one of the best institute of India that is NIT Warangal for engineering. 

There is option for students of NIT Warangal to change their department after 1st year 2nd semester. Thus yes you can change your branch from metallurgical engineering to get into other departments after 1st year 2nd semester.

But the thing behind it is that you need to be very good academic wise in your first year and you need to get more than 8 CGPA in your first year of engineering.
