See now a days the sociological studies are done in more data correlated way. So when you want to be a assistant professor then you may not need that much of computer knowledge but if the syllabus changes and data interpretation techniques using coding is introduced in the syllabus of sociology then you will need to know about the computer. I would always recommend knowing the computed skills can be really helpful. SO if you can invest some time in this then in future you will get the feedback in future that's for no doubt.

At minimum you should know :

  • Making Power Point as nowadays online classes are going on. So you should have this skill.
  • You should know how to upload and download as its required for downloading the answer scripts of online examination.

As such there are no such basics directly required. But you should know things like MS Word, MS Excel, MS Power Point etc.
