Since you are talking about career in hacking, I assume that you are talking about Ethical Hacking. There is no certain time to start Ethical Hacking. You can start it now being in class 12. If possible, you can take subjects related to programming or computer science. If not, then you can start with the basics such as learning some programming language on your own through online courses and tutorials. You can start off programming by learning languages such as C, C++.Get a Linux-based operating system and try to know the basics commands that every Linux user should know. Then go for networking part. You should be knowing basic networking like protocols and backend browser requests and all. Once you get to know all the concepts try to implement the same with your coding skills.

Now even though you don't "necessarily need a degree to have good career in Ethical hacking, if want to acquire a professional job as a hacker, you might need some kind of certification. So it would be really great if you take up Computer science Engineering as your stream and major from there. You can learn a lot about networking, programming, Linux Operating Sytem along with a major subject taught of Ethical Hacking.

After completion of your 12th you need learn at one programming language to develop some complex concepts and then you can join CEH(Certified Ethical Hacker Course )on private and government institution online or offline.

Learn computer languages, get specialization in LINUX commands and other operating systems. Basically you will need a lot of practice and basic knowledge of all the softwares.Learn concepts of ethical hacking from websites no need to go for any paid courses. Make a virtual environment of windows and linux especially kali linux. Kali linux has vast amount of hacking tools available which you can practice on your own in virtual environment.

You can also participate in online hacking contests and also do competitive coding that will help you code faster.
