i got 74.8% in class. 12 in 5 subjects in isc board and in top 4 my percentage is 80% can i get admisission in nits and iits
Hey Niharika,
Getting admission in IITs or NITs doesn’t depend only on your Class 12 percentage. The main criteria is your JEE performance. For IITs, you need to clear JEE Advanced after qualifying JEE Main. For NITs, admission is through JEE Main rank.
As per eligibility, you must score at least 75% in Class 12 (for General/OBC) or be in the top 20 percentile of your board. Since you got 74.8% overall, it’s slightly less than 75, but if your board’s top 20 percentile cutoff is lower, you may still be eligible. In that case, you can sit for JEE counseling.
So, your admission chance depends mainly on:
1. Your JEE Main/Advanced rank.
2. Whether your board percentile rule covers your marks.
So, If you clear these, yes, you can get into an IIT/NIT depending on your JEE score. Otherwise, you might need to consider other engineering colleges.
So, with 74.8% in 5 main subjects and 80% in your top 4 from ISC board, you’ve cleared the board exams well, but for admission in NITs and IITs, the key is having at least 75% aggregate in 12th (PCM for engineering) or being in the top 20 percentile of your board. Since your 5-subject average is just under 75%, it could be tricky, but sometimes boards release top 20 percentile cutoffs and ISC’s is usually lower than 80%. You’ll also need to crack JEE Main (for NITs) and JEE Advanced (for IITs). So check your board's top 20 percentile cutoff and see if you qualify that way if you do, and you clear the entrance exam, you can try for NITs/IITs!
