Hi dear,
You have to not only sit but also clear jee main for sitting in jee advance. If you clear jee main then you will eligible for NITs and if you clear jee advance then eligible for JEE advance.

No you wont be allowed to appear in JEE Advance if you haven't appeared for JEE Mains. JEE Advance is eligible for only those students who have appeared in JEE Mains, the same year and cleared it.
