Hi ,

First of all congratulations on getting qualified in JEE (MAINS). Its not easy to get qualified amonst the lakh of students who write this exam. You have done that , so congratualations.
And No. Its not compulsory to give paper 2 or attempt paper 2.

Basically , JEE main is being conducted by National testing Academy from this year and it is held twice a year. One in Jan and one in april, you would know about that.

JEE mains paper 2 , as in the exam which is going to be held in april , you can take it , but its not compulsory.
There are many reasons as to why they are conducting twice a year.
One is that those who can not appear for Paper one , due to any reason have every chance to attend . Due to varied reasons , the candidates often miss the exam and they end up taking year break just because they didnt attempt and cannot get into IIT's .

Other reason includes that , many people will not be able to qualify either their situations or some lack of preperation. so those who have already attempted and not qualified can also appear for JEE Mains April.

Also, If you feel the marks which has got you qualified isnt satisfactory enough , you can take Paper 2, i.e., in April. You can high for better rank and get into Advanced.
so how do they evaluate for repeaters of both Jan and April exam attempters is that they take the best score. They will merge all the four NTA scores of each candidate and prepare the final merit or rank list.
If Incase you are attending both the test, the best NTA score will be calculated.

There are two divisions - One for B.E or B.Tech and other one is for B.Arch or B.Planning. For both this is how they prepare final merit.
You can attempt if you feel like your score is less to get into IIT's or NIT'S. however, you are already qualified for Advanced and yet you are aiming for higher ranks to get a good seat in IIT's, then you can attempt again.

But it is not compulsory. It is done to prevent students from taking a year back and wait for another year to attempt the exam. Its quite simple reason as to why twice in a YEar. Also ,it  isn;t even compulsory to attend both. You can either attend any one or both , which is completely dependent on you itself.

So no worries if you havent taken paper two. Because it is not compulsory.

Hope this helped with your query.

Good Luck
