In India as well as Abroad, most of the Semiconductor and Chip Design Companies prefer Postgraduate Students for their Engineering and Research Positions. Having done B.Tech in ECE, I would advise you to first prepare for GATE EC, pursue Postgraduation in ECE/VLSI Specialization at some of the Higher Technical Institutions of India like Top IITs, NITs and IISc Bangalore. Most of the NIRF Top 20 Engineering Institutes have excellent Placements as far as M.Tech/MS in CSE, ECE and EE is concerned.
You may even prepare your application and GRE/TOEFL Scorecard for MS/PhD in Electronics & Computer Engineering EECS/VLSI/Semiconductor Technology from some of the Top Universities abroad, preferably in the United States, since there is a huge career scope and impetus, all the Major Semiconductor and Electronics Corporations being headquartered there.
