Dear Aspirant,

For beginning their preparations for JEE Main 2020, students need to learn about the syllabus and exam pattern. Getting to know the JEE Main 2020 syllabus, candidates will know what topics are relevant, the weighting given to themes and concepts, and so on. In addition to the syllabus, students should also go through the JEE Main 2020 exam template to learn about the nature of the questions, the marking scheme, the length of the exam and many other important issues relevant to the entrance test.

The exam is computer-based, i.e., pen-paper mode and is of three hour duration. Total number of questions are 25 for each subject, i.e., Physics, Chemistry, Maths , where 20 questions are object-type and the other five are numericals. There is a negative marking of 1 mark for every wrong question. The paper is 300 marks.

Now lets see the list of important topics:

For Physics:

  • Magnetics (maximum questions in the paper)
  • Optics– (Relatively easy)
  • Modern Physics-This is one of the most popular and relevant topics for both JEE Main and JEE Advanced. Applicants must also discuss in depth sub-topics such as radioactive substance decay, nuclear fission and fusion, dual existence of matter andx-rays.
  • Electromagnetic Induction and AC-Digital (for numericals)
  • Oscillation and Waves (in-depth study is required)
  • Electrostatics (According to the trend, four questions are asked every year)

For Chemistry-

  • Organic Chemistry- Purification and Characterisation of Organic Compounds, Some Basic Principles of Organic Chemistry, Hydrocarbons, Organic Compounds Containing Oxygen, Organic Compounds Containing Nitrogen, BioMolecules etc.
  • Physical Chemistry- Some Basic concepts in Chemistry, Atomic Structure, States of Matter, Chemical Bonding and Molecular Structure, Surface Chemistry, Chemical Thermodynamics, Equilibrium, Chemical Kinetics, and Redox Reactions and Electrochemistry.
  • Inorganic Chemistry- Classification of Elements and Periodicity in Properties, General Principles and Process of Isolation of Metals, Hydrogen, s - Block Elements (Alkali and Alkaline Earth Metals), Co-ordination Compounds, Environmental Chemistry to name few.

For Maths:

  • Permutations & Combinations
  • Definite Integration
  • Quadratic Equation
  • Conic Section
  • Differential Equation
  • Probability
  • Determinants
  • Application of Derivatives
  • Vector & 3D Geometry
  • Complex Numbers
  • Coordinate Geometry; Matrices in Algebra: Circle, Parabola, Hyperbola in Coordinate Geometry
  • Functions, limits, Continuity & Differentiability
  • Sequences engineers
  • Calculus; Definite Integral in Calculus
