In January 2019, the Ministry of Environment, Forests, and Climate Change of India signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with the Norwegian Ministry of Foreign Affairs to strengthen collaboration on ocean-related initiatives. This led to the establishment of the India-Norway Ocean Dialogue during the visit of the Norwegian Prime Minister to India. As part of this collaboration, both governments launched the India-Norway Marine Pollution Initiative, symbolised by a Letter of Intent.
