Dear Madhav
No there is not any prescription by the NTA that you need to write JEE mains twice. If you are suitable with single attempt then you should go with single attempt only. The best thing is that if you will write both the exams of JEE Mains i.e in the month of January and April your best among both these will be considered for your admission eventhough you are taking 1 year drop also that is not a problem.
