Hello, Aniket. First of all, I congratulate your brother for successfully clearing WBJEE. I have read your question and only thing I can suggest is ask your brother to participate in Round 2 of the counselling. If you look closely to Round-wise cutoffs you will notice that the range of opening and closing ranks gets wider as the counselling process progresses to subsequent rounds.

For instance, in 2020 WBJEE Counselling Round - 1, the Opening Rank for Chemical Engineering in JU was 255 while the Closing Rank was 853 (for General). This range changes in Round 3 where Opening Rank was changed to 269 and Closing Rank was 981 (for General).

Use WBJEE College Predictor to know your chances of getting admission in various colleges including JU.

I hope this information helps you. I wish your brother all the best for his future and career.

Thank you.

Thank you sir for your suggestion, he will obiviously wait for subsequent rounds but sir here the problem is not the rank but the problem is that even having sufficient rank he is not getting it even students having greater rank than him are getting but he is not.he have given first priority to jadavpur followed by kalyani, jalpaiguri and then other colleges.Haldia is his 39th choice.then how we will be assured that what happened in round 1 will not happen in subsequent rounds. Sir if you can help us in this regard then I will be very gratefull to you

Aniket Roy Aniket, if you have any specific problem, I suggest you call their toll-free helpline numbers: 1800-1023-781 or 1800-3450-050. I also suggest you go through the FAQ file which the WBJEEB has provided on the e-counselling website: wbjeeb.nic.in.

Thank You.

Hello,

Seat allotment depends on various factors such as order of preferences of the college/branch, total number of seats available under particular category, merit rank, category of the candidate, seat availability etc. Your brother might have selected Haldia Institute of Technology in highest priority followed by Jadavpur University. Since the seat allotment is based on order of preferences of the college/branch and other factors it is important that one should give highest priority to the college in which he/she in interested. We would suggest your brother to participate in subsequent rounds so that he may get seat in the preferred college.

thanks mam for your help. but mam, we both have filled the choices by giving highest priority to jadavpur followed by kalyani, jalpaiguri and then other colleges.Infact Haldia college was our 39th choice. so it's not possible that this happened due to priority mistake in choice filling. I just want to know why he does't get the seat if his rank is less than the cutoffs.
maybe in subsequent rounds he may get a better choice, but it's not sure that what will happen as round 1 results are still peculiar.Mam,If you can help in this regard I will be very gratefull to you.
