Your son's chances of getting into a government B.Tech colleges depends largely on which branch he chooses:

High-demand branches (CSE,IT,ECE):

Admission in top government colleges for these branches are very unlikely even with the reservation,as closing ranks are much lower.

Moderate-demand branches(Mechanical, civil etc.):

He has a reasonable chance in some state government colleges or low-demand branches in top colleges, depending on seat availability and previous year's closing rank.

In short, admission in top branches in top colleges is difficult,but for other branches in govt colleges,he has a fair chance.choosing the branch wisely is key.
