should i take bsc. general or bsc. hons in chemistry if i want to prepare for upsc exams?

Dear Anshika,

There is no specific course you can take to get through the UPSC exam. But most people do prefer course in relation to engineering or sciences before appearing for UPSC. I will try to provide details on both the courses you have given to allow you make an informed decision:

1. Bsc Chemistry

  • Duration: 3 years
  • Admission Process: 12th marks or Entrance based
  • Average Annual Fees: INR 20,000 to INR 2 Lacs
  • Future Careers: Chemist , Pharma Associate, Lab Assistant, Researcher, Teacher etc.
  • Top colleges:

  3. Stella Maris College
  4. Mount Carmel College
  5. IISC Bengaluru

2.Bsc Hons Chemistry

  • Duration:  3 years
  • Admission Process: Meri based or entrance Based
  • Course Fees: Rs 2 Lacs to Rs 5 Lacs
  • Average Starting Salary: Rs 15,000 to Rs 3 Lac
  • Future Careers: Anesthesiologist, Lecturer & Teacher, Technical Writer, chemist, Clinical Research Specialist, Cytologist, etc.

Hello Anshika,

You can go with Bsc general if you want to apply for UPSC but First you can Check your eligibility on UPSC Official Portal and Decide about this.

Hello Anshika , There is no specialization required to appear in UPSC. UPSC is a three stage selection process which includes Pre, Mains and interview.

A Bachelor's degree BSc is generally considered an ordinary pass degree and BSc Hons is looked upon as an extraordinary degree. BSc Hons is supposed to have a heavier syllabus than BSc

So it totally depends upon you to choose the course according to your interest.
