Hello,

The removal of the choice for integer-type questions in JEE Mains 2025 is a significant change and will have several effects on the exam strategy and preparation. Here’s a breakdown of what it means:

1. Increased Attempt Requirement

Before: Students could attempt 5 out of 10 integer-type questions in each section (Physics, Chemistry, Mathematics), giving them the flexibility to choose the easier ones.

Now: All integer-type questions need to be attempted, increasing the workload and reducing the flexibility.

Effect: Students must focus on accuracy and time management for all the questions, as skipping tough ones isn’t an option anymore.

2. Higher Importance of Complete Preparation

Without choices, there’s no room to avoid topics or concepts you're less comfortable with.

Effect: Comprehensive preparation is essential to tackle all areas, especially in Mathematics, where integer-type questions often include tough numerical problems.

3. Increased Difficulty Perception

Integer-type questions usually have no options to eliminate, making them more challenging to solve compared to MCQs.

Effect: The exam may feel more difficult overall, as students have to solve every integer-based question without guessing or skipping weaker topics.

4. Impact on Time Management

Earlier, students could save time by skipping the tougher integer-type questions. Now, they need to allocate more time to these questions.

Effect: Practicing time management will become crucial, especially for lengthy sections like Mathematics.

5. Potential Drop in Average Scores

Many students struggle with integer-type questions because of their complexity. Having no choice could lead to a slight drop in the average scores.

Effect: Percentile ranks might shift slightly upward for students who handle the pressure well.

In the JEE Mains exam, the new pattern introduced includes a mix of question types, which typically consists of:

  • Multiple Choice Questions (MCQs): These have four options, with only one correct answer.
  • Numerical Value Questions (Integer Type Questions): These require candidates to enter a numerical value as the answer, which can be a whole number or a decimal.
  • Multiple Correct Answers Questions: These are similar to MCQs but may have more than one correct answer, and candidates must identify all correct options.

So, the choices in the JEE Mains paper are not limited to integer type questions it have very minimum marks so this will not impact that much performance of students they encompass various formats, including MCQs and questions requiring numerical answers.

GOOD Day!!
