Hello Antoneeta,

The difference between B.Sc Nursing and B.Sc Nursing(Post Basic) seems to confuse a lot of people. This is what they both are about-

1.Bachelors in Nursing (B.Sc Nursing)

B.Sc. Nursing is a 4-year undergraduate course in which students are trained to become healthcare professionals that are capable of taking care of patients, treating them and assisting Doctors in treatment and surgery.

ELIGIBILITY AS PER AIIMS:

Students who have passed 10+2 (Science stream- with Physics, Chemistry and Biology subjects with English) from a recognized board.

must pass the qualifying exam with 55% for General/OBC (50% for SC/ST candidates).

Must be 17 years as on 31st December 20. Candidates born or after 2nd January 2003 are not eligible to apply.

Only female candidate is eligible to apply under this course.

2.Bachelors in Nursing (Post Basic)

Post Basic BSc Nursing (also referred to as PBBSc) is a 2-year undergraduate course in nursing. In a BSc(Post Basic), the candidate has done some prior academic work which is lower than that of a Bachelor’s degree. (example diploma).

This degree is generally meant for those who have done diploma or GNM like courses of nursing so that they don’t have to do 4-year nursing. And only such candidates are eligible!

ELIGIBILITY AS PER AIIMS-

One should qualify the 12th or its equivalent exam from a recognized board. Diploma holders in General Nursing and Midwifery can also apply.

It is necessary to be registered as Nurse, Nurse (RN), Midwife (RM) with State Nursing Council.

Male candidates can also apply.

Therefore, if you are in class 12th, you should opt for B.Sc. Nursing only because that is exam is meant for you. But if you have a GNM or any other diploma then, you should apply for Post basic BSc Nursing which requires Registered Nurses and Registered Midwives (RNRM). After both these courses, you can go for masters and then further for Ph.D.

I hope I was able to clear your doubt. If you have any other question, feel free to comment or ask.

If you want to apply in AIIMS B.Sc programmes, then you can apply for B.Sc paramedical also but for B.Sc Nursing(Post Basic), you won't be eligible since you do not have the diploma or course required neither you are registered as a nurse.
