What is percentile in jee main ?
Hello Ani
Percentile is a relative score that depends upon the number of students who score more than you and total number of students.
It doest not depend upon the marks directly.
Eg. In a test of 360 marks ; 10 students appear and their marks are as :
150;160;170;200;220;222;225;240;270;300
Than the students who score 240 marks got 80 percentile
Percentile is calculated by = ( no. Of students who score less than or equal to you / total number of students)
And formula for rank is = (100-your percentile score ) *total number of students / 100
Let's take same number of students and 360 marks test .
Now students score are as :
120;130;140;170;180;230;228;240;280;300
Now the student who score 240 got same percentile marks as above one.( Case 1).
Case 3:
Marks of 10 srudenst are as :
190;200;205;239;240;250;355;270;278;280
Now student who got 240 marks got 50 percentile and rank you can calculate using above formula.
So this is how percentile is calculated and how it depends upon.
Good luck.
