In order to score 97 percentile in JEE mains, your marks should be in between 120-150. In Jan 2020 the student securing a percentile of 97.65 had rank 18k. The percentile was between 140-150 in April 2020. So mostly your score should be 120+ in order to attain 97 percentile.

The marks depends on several factors to determine percentile, such as the difficulty of the paper and performance of the students. Also on the number of students who could get All India Quota(AIQ) seats. Depending on these factors the percentile and rank differs. Anyways, depending on previous few years record, here's for 97 percentile marks required is 121 - 130. This year who had recieved 121 marks got a percentile of 97.81. Hope it is clear now.
