72 MonthsDoctor of Philosophy in Liberal Arts is a full-time course offered by the Indian Institute of Technology Bhilai. This course duration varies from 3 to 6 years, the student has to finish this timeline to obtain a Ph.D. degree.
Broad Areas of Research-World Literature, Comparative literature , Modernism, South Asian writing; Urban planning and history in the Global South; Cultural contact in colonial India; Empire and modernity in the long nineteenth century, Cultural studies, Macroeconomics, Financial economics, Economics of innovation, Development economic and public economics.
Eligibility Criteria
A. Applicants must have ONE of the following in appropriate subject areas.
1. Master’s Degree in Engineering/Technology or equivalent degree, with first class, 60% marks or equivalent (55% marks for SC/ST).
2. Bachelor’s degree in Engineering/Technology, with first class, 60% marks or equivalent (55% marks for SC/ST)
3. Master’s degree in science, arts, social sciences, or equivalent degree, with first class, 60% marks or equivalent (55% marks for SC/ST).
B. Applicants must also fulfil ONE of the following additional requirements.
1. Valid GATE Score /NET.
2. Junior Research Fellowship (JRF) of CSIR/ UGC/ NBHM/ DBT/ ICAR/ ICMR/ ICPR or DST INSPIRE Fellowship.
3. Minimum of 2 years of professional experience. The experience gained while acquiring a Master's Degree in Engineering/Technology or experience acquired after obtaining the qualifying degree and completed before the starting of the semester in which admission is sought may be considered as professional experience.
4. BTech from IIT with a CPI/CGPA of 8.0 or more.

MUST have qualified NET/ UGC JRF (Psychology/ English/ Economics/ Women’s Studies/ Sociology/ History/ Comparative Literature) or ICMR JRF (Social Sciences).
