The minimum and maximum duration of these programs are two and three years respectively. Each year consists of two semesters, summer and winter terms. The structure and details of the curriculum for these programs are given separately.

The M Tech program in Materials and Energy Engineering is an amalgamation of conventional and non-conventional energy related courses focusing on policies and regulations, basics of energy engineering and especially materials development for energy related studies. The course curriculum consists of one-year course work followed by a one year of dissertation. This curriculum envisages to prepare the students for a professional or research career either in industries or academia after the completion of the course. The basic description of the course structure is as following

Total Credits requirement: 72 (Minimum) 

Dissertation: 32 Credits 

Course work: 39 Credits 

Industrial training: 4-6 weeks (1 Credit)

Eligibility Criteria

Candidates who have qualified for the award of Bachelor’s degree in Engineering/Technology from a recognized University or Institute in an appropriate discipline are eligible to apply for admission to the M.Tech. program. Candidates with M.Sc. degree from a recognized University or Institute in an appropriate discipline may also be eligible to apply for admission to the M.Tech. program. Exact eligibility criteria will be as prescribed in the regulations and approved by the senate of the Institute from time to time and announced by the Institute for admission in each year. The admission of the candidate is subject to approval by the Chairman, senate and this shall be reported to the senate.

Admission Details

  • A valid score in the Graduate Aptitude Test in Engineering (GATE) are eligible to apply for admission.
  • For admission to M.Tech. course under the regular/sponsored category, the concerned School shall adopt qualifying criteria for short-listing for interview/written test and prepare a merit list of selected candidates after interview/written test for all the categories.
