Pondicherry University which is a central university in Puducherry Union territory provideyou with the best infrastructure facilities that's available in south India. It provides free WiFi to All students teachers and non-teaching staffs, the best lab systems and Equipments at national level are available in major departments. The hygiene condition is also well maintained at all the area of university and the messes also provide a better menu that's available in south India.
As a student from Department of History , I can say that the department has the most efficient professors some of whom where internationally recognised historians and archaeologists. Many students of the department has cleared net exam and it provides a teaching career to many students. Many aluminis of the department are made notable achievements in the field of academics and archaeology.
The MBA departments especially Management studies, International Bussiness and Tourism studies provide many placement opportunities to the students. Though the initial salaries are not much excitable it provide a better job experience to the students. The university try to provide better placement options to the students. The students have to pass many tests mainly interview and activities to get placement in the best institutions.
The fee in Pondicherry University is one of the highest of all the central universities in India. Though in some departments the fee is acceptable, in majority departments the amount of fee is very high and there are attempts by the students and students' council at all possible way to get it reduced.
The campus of the Pondicherry University provide you with a life that is very closely related to the nature. Out of the 800 acres of Campus more than 300 acrrs are filled with trees the entire university gives you a pleasant life in the campus. The university nights with yellow lights is a fabulous view ta all the students in the university. It will keep us calm and cool and also inspire and encourage us to be so active in the student life.
our university has the facilities which is required for the students and the infrastructure is good.It has rich biodiversity and eco-friendly environment. Students from different cultural background can be seen. Regarding any difficulties we can approach our students council which works for students solidarity and welfare. Im not sure about laboratories, library is one of the best thing in our university along with reading halls. New hostels are better comparing to old ones and the food depends.
I'm doing masters in sociology as it provides better understanding about society and individuals. Teaching is comparitively good. our curriculum is updated and it helps through clearing UGC-NET and JRF. Regarding jobs there are options based on their skills and interests.
Most of the humanities and arts departments encourages students to engage in doctoral research. students are trained to conduct researches on their own. I'm not aware of Other department Placements and job oppurtunities.
Total fees for one whole academic year costs around 20,000/- and inbetween we have to pay semester fee which costs 1700/- and also exam fees it depends on number of subjects opted. Yes, its worth of paying and I am satisfied with fees and the knowledge i'm recieving.
University life is filled with both Pleasure and Pain. It is a different phase of our life we can learn new things and life values. Students are offered with many add on courses provided with certificates. Students can get help from their superiors and its not based on difference and inequality. Its comfortable and safe for the students being inside this university anytime and anywhere.
Pondicherry University has good infrastructure facilities like smart class room and all... But, in social science most of the faculty are not using any of these... so students are not getting any benefit from it... Comparing to other central universities PU has clean and green campus aswell as hostel facilities.
In my department I can say that teachers are ready to update themselves. Recently department introduced new syllabus and that dealing contemporary needs. Peramanat faculty are well qualified and trained. They are very open to the students. But in UG course(first 3 years of MA integrated) department teaching largely dependenting on Guest faculty.
We can not see any placement activities in the department... eventhough many studentd getting pkaced well by their smart andd hard work. Alumini standing as a good placement cell. In management and commerce has good placement history.
Comparing to other universities PU has highest fee strucure. Paying huge amonut for Arts is questionnable.
Can live a wonderful campus life. PU has student comminity from all over the country and we can make good relationship with them. It is a best place to know about other cultres and life beyond the boarders.
This placevwill change you.
Pondicherry University has an excellent infrastructure. It well includes Health Center, Shopping Complex, Multiple Laboratories, Sports arenas, WiFi, Smart classrooms etc. Apart from the play fields most of the university assets are well maintained. The roads were properly tarred, Garbage bins are fixed in adequate places and regularly cleaned. The university has a dedicated sanitary wing to ensure all in intact. The contributions of the sweepers (akkas) needs special mention.
I am pursuing MA History in this University. I think the syllabus of our department is itself unique. It covers all aspects in the history. Global History, Atlantic Slave trade were some of the papers offered by this department which makes itself different from other colleges. Syllabus are attributed in such a manner which gives more focus in the Ancient Indian History. We are blessed with the eminent and well qualified professors who are known around the globe.
The department of History in the Pondicherry University did not offers any job placements to its students. How ever, Most of the students are well talented due to the intense programs and strategies offered by this department. Majority of them qualified for the NET/JRF in the due course of their Post Graduation Degree.
When compared to the other central universities, Pondicherry University has the highest fee structure across all the departments and centers. Fees will not be affordable for a student who are not coming from an affluent background. Still, half of the Fees which is paid in the university for the academic purposes will come to your pocket if your performed well in the examination in the form of stipends.
Campus Life is extraordinary. One can enjoy a heterogeneous culture inside the campus as the students coming from all over the world pursue their seats here. The campus has no restrictions except in Drugs and Ragging. Teachers and non- Teaching staffs are very friendly and eager to help if we approach them. The Location is about 12 kilometers away from the Pondicherry City in a placed called Chinna Kalapet. The university beach (which is not a private beach) is located in front of the university
The University has a good working environment with almost all facilities. The library, reading room, departments and the hostels are connected to University wifi which has limited access to data and certain contents. Reference books need to be updated for Sociology in the school and central library. The hostel facility is average where a single room has to be shared with three students. The space for recreational activity has to be set for girls where boys do already have. Hygiene is average.
The curriculum in department of sociology is updated an year back and is more inclusive though the suggested readings have to be more relevant. I spent 5 years in the department doing integrated M A Sociology where in the 4th year would be merged to the new PG batch. Teaching is above average and specific teachers meet the standards. In general the department keeps cordial relation with the students. It facilitates students to have a sociological perspective in whatever field they diverge into.
We dont have a placement facility specific for the department and in general for Social Sciences. Otherwise students are placed at UPSC, various state PSCs and other universities ( Punjab University, Lovely University)
At the time of admission it costs around 14,700 and then 2000 and 6000 alternatively till the course finished . Now it's been increased . The money was worth paying.
Campus life was great with the fellow students and the local people are very nice apart from few exceptions. Its safe inside the campus.
Institutional infrastructure Pondicherry university is quite Good. But still Road conditions inside the campus have to be improved, WIFI bandwidth is not upto the level and Bus frequency for inner transportation is very low, have to be increased by 2 for every half an hour.
Regarding department of History, which I belong, is having very fair quality of teaching and the curriculum had been designed out as a multidisciplinary one, which much focuses on the recent trends of historical research.
I didn't know much about placement in our university, but regarding social science in Indian universities we can't expect placements as do we expect in engineering colleges and technical institutions, since most of the students will try for the high studies.
I paid Around 25,000 Rs (including hostel) per year, which I feel little bit higher than other central universities. But still our institution is providing fair quality of service, faculties and facilities. Which definitely have to be improved in future.
Pondicherry university campus is entirely different from rest of the all other south Indian universities campuses. Clam and peace full atmosphere with good environment.
This is one of the best university in south Indian. Which is still not utilized properly by the Native pondicherry and Tamil Nadu student.
Yes our college have good infrastructure. But in the case of facilities it's not good especially on hostel rooms there is limited network connection and transportation also not frequent. The facilities in classrooms, libraries, laboratories are good on internet connection but there is no smart board class. No our living place is very bad in cleanliness and food is not hygenic
I am studying M. A . The quality of education is not bad. When we are getting permanent faculty teaching is good but in the case of guest faculty it pathetic. No my job is not ready after my graduation that is even more horrible
My department doesn't have placement, that is the biggest disappointment.I don't have any idea about other department. But in the case of mba department we have placements and also for social work placements are Available
We are paying nearly 4500 and 7000 for food for a semester. Yeah feel in some cases but in the case of food it's very bad. In case of education good
Campass life is very good and our campass life is best. Students were engage in all kinds of activities especially on sports. We have 2 finely Bulited stadium. We have 2 tournaments on food ball , hand ball and cricket in a year. Yes our campass is safe , in the case of emergency we have hospital inside our curriculum 24×7
Overall its good
The infrastructure and facilities of the college are adequate. The library and reference room are well maintained but are not available 24*7. Reading room which is also not available 24*7. Wifi is satisfactory. The mess food is poor. The living spaces are fine except for a few old hostels.
Academically, the history department is fine. The permanent faculties are well-experienced and helpful. The syllabus mainly concentrated on Indian history and it is framed according to the specialization of professors. The only problem is the number of guest faculties.
The department of history doesn't have any campus placements. I think there are campus placements for the management and science students. But social science and humanities departments don't have enough campus placements.
The academic and other fees are high in PU comparing to other central universities. The MA history course costs approximately 23000/- excluding the mess fee. There are scholarships for merit and reduction in fee for students. The mess fee is almost 15000 a year and the mess food is not worthy for the fee we are paying.
The campus life is active. There are many extra-curricular activities for students conducted by various departments and student organizations. There are sports tournaments and cultural programmes. Also, departments organise curriculum-oriented seminars and classes. The university is situated in Chennai- Pondicherry ECR, approximately 10 kilometres away from Pondicherry. For medical emergencies PIMS is nearby and GIPMER is also accessible.
There are hourly bus services for student transportation, except on the weekends. The library is fairly well-equipped, and the reading is open on all days, but does not stay open for 24 hours. Wifi is available, though its speed varies. There are separate gymns for Male and female students and two stadiums. The hostels are cleaned daily. The mess food is average, but there are three canteens.
The Department of History has an excellent faculty and the syllabus mainly focuses on Indian history. There is an option to take a couple of "soft" courses offered by other departments. There are also regular lectures by visiting scholars and other personalities. The history department does not offer dissertation. However, a few papers are taken by guest faculties.
The humanities, social sciences and science students do not get placement offers. There are placement drives for those doing MBA and MCom, and most of them find them satisfactory. Placement offers are only for final year students.
PU's fees is rather high compared to other central universities, especially for the MBA department. Female students do not have to pay rent for hostels. Students can get mess reductions for days that they do not eat from the mess. Overall, however, the facilities are only average considering the comparitively high fees.
There are frequents events organized by the students themselves, including fests, movie screenings and plays. There are both academic and cultural events. The campus is less than an hour from the town by bus.
All the classrooms and the labs in our department are well equipped with all facilities. The library is maintained in a very good manner. As for the hostel, though it's a bit old, it's still maintained pretty well. Wifi facility is there in almost all the buildings. As for the mess, the issue of hygiene is sometimes questionable.
Currently doing Integ.MSC in Physics. The reason is mainly because I didn't want to pursue mainstream engineering courses, so naturally I took the MSc course. The teaching quality here is pretty good. They do give an insight on recent developments in certain areas of interest. Though this course is not a most sought after one, it does helps one to get placed in some institution, school etc. But along with a Phd or an MTech, it gives us much better job opportunities.
It's pretty average. Some students did get placed from departments like physics, chemistry, mathematics etc. If I'm not wrong the average salary offered was around Rs. 4 lakhs per annum. The department is also highly encouraging to students to appear for the placement interviews.
So, I had to pay Rs.9800(course fee alone) per year. I think it's totally worth it for all the facilities we are getting here.
The campus is never idle and is always lively here. We can walk around anytime anywhere within the campus as it safe here. Most of the time there is a solution for almost all the emergency situations.
The campus being in Pondicherry gives a new charm to it. We feel a sense of freedom and responsibility when we stay here.
