The infrastructure and facilities of the college are adequate. The library and reference room are well maintained but are not available 24*7. Reading room which is also not available 24*7. Wifi is satisfactory. The mess food is poor. The living spaces are fine except for a few old hostels.
Academically, the history department is fine. The permanent faculties are well-experienced and helpful. The syllabus mainly concentrated on Indian history and it is framed according to the specialization of professors. The only problem is the number of guest faculties.
The department of history doesn't have any campus placements. I think there are campus placements for the management and science students. But social science and humanities departments don't have enough campus placements.
The academic and other fees are high in PU comparing to other central universities. The MA history course costs approximately 23000/- excluding the mess fee. There are scholarships for merit and reduction in fee for students. The mess fee is almost 15000 a year and the mess food is not worthy for the fee we are paying.
The campus life is active. There are many extra-curricular activities for students conducted by various departments and student organizations. There are sports tournaments and cultural programmes. Also, departments organise curriculum-oriented seminars and classes. The university is situated in Chennai- Pondicherry ECR, approximately 10 kilometres away from Pondicherry. For medical emergencies PIMS is nearby and GIPMER is also accessible.
There are hourly bus services for student transportation, except on the weekends. The library is fairly well-equipped, and the reading is open on all days, but does not stay open for 24 hours. Wifi is available, though its speed varies. There are separate gymns for Male and female students and two stadiums. The hostels are cleaned daily. The mess food is average, but there are three canteens.
The Department of History has an excellent faculty and the syllabus mainly focuses on Indian history. There is an option to take a couple of "soft" courses offered by other departments. There are also regular lectures by visiting scholars and other personalities. The history department does not offer dissertation. However, a few papers are taken by guest faculties.
The humanities, social sciences and science students do not get placement offers. There are placement drives for those doing MBA and MCom, and most of them find them satisfactory. Placement offers are only for final year students.
PU's fees is rather high compared to other central universities, especially for the MBA department. Female students do not have to pay rent for hostels. Students can get mess reductions for days that they do not eat from the mess. Overall, however, the facilities are only average considering the comparitively high fees.
There are frequents events organized by the students themselves, including fests, movie screenings and plays. There are both academic and cultural events. The campus is less than an hour from the town by bus.
All the classrooms and the labs in our department are well equipped with all facilities. The library is maintained in a very good manner. As for the hostel, though it's a bit old, it's still maintained pretty well. Wifi facility is there in almost all the buildings. As for the mess, the issue of hygiene is sometimes questionable.
Currently doing Integ.MSC in Physics. The reason is mainly because I didn't want to pursue mainstream engineering courses, so naturally I took the MSc course. The teaching quality here is pretty good. They do give an insight on recent developments in certain areas of interest. Though this course is not a most sought after one, it does helps one to get placed in some institution, school etc. But along with a Phd or an MTech, it gives us much better job opportunities.
It's pretty average. Some students did get placed from departments like physics, chemistry, mathematics etc. If I'm not wrong the average salary offered was around Rs. 4 lakhs per annum. The department is also highly encouraging to students to appear for the placement interviews.
So, I had to pay Rs.9800(course fee alone) per year. I think it's totally worth it for all the facilities we are getting here.
The campus is never idle and is always lively here. We can walk around anytime anywhere within the campus as it safe here. Most of the time there is a solution for almost all the emergency situations.
The campus being in Pondicherry gives a new charm to it. We feel a sense of freedom and responsibility when we stay here.
The infrastructure is good overall. Hostel rooms are meant for two people but three are allotted which is slightly inconvenient. Classrooms are well equipped with WiFi. The food and living conditions are clean and hygenic. Cleanliness is well maintained.
I m studying Sociology since i want to be aware and understand the social situations and problems prevailing our society and use this knowledge to uplift the unprivileged and also make myself a better human being.
There are rarely any placements for social sciences. Even though there are placements for Science and Commerce it is not the case for Social Sciences. Not all social science students want to do a PhD.
The course cost 9200 per year for an Integrated Sociology student. Education has become an expensive affair and the amount can be reduced for the convenience of the students. Being a Central University this amount is a bit high.
The campus is well equipped with various facilities like health center, bank, post office, gym, beauty parlour, shops etc. Various stadiums and fields are available for students entertainment. It is safe for people inside the campus but one might experience moral policing by some bullies in rare occasions. The students, teachers and support staffs are quite helpful.
This place has helped me to understand and experience the diversity and and culture of our country.
Our university have all the necessary infrastructure facilities for the academic development of the students. Our class room is large enough to accommodate around 70 students. It is provided with internet facility. Our library has large collection of books.Mess careers provide us with nutritious and hygienic food.
Iam a post graduate History student. We have experienced and well qualified Professors from reputed universities in India and abroad. Our department is also providing course other than hard core course , which help us to do specialisation in a particular field.
We don't have any placement opportunities in our department. But we have option to do research in our department.Year by year many students are qualifing NET exam.Large number of research work are also going in our department.
Our course cost is increasing year by year at an increasing level. Academic fee is approximately around fourteen thousand. But it is comparatively high compared to other Central Universities in India. University is providing with necessary facilities for the fee we are paying.
We have an outstanding campus life here. We can enjoy a mini Indian cultural life because students from different parts of the country are studying here. Different cultural events are conducting are organising in the university. So many extra curricular activities and sports events are conducting here. Both the facilities and staff members are supportive. The entire campus is safe for the students.
Our campus is eco friendly with so many trees and shelter to many widliy species. We have reading room which accommodate around 150 students is open up to 12 am. Here students have much freedom to express themselves.
Our university have good infrastructure , almost all the classrooms are smart classrooms, high speed wifi is available in every nuke and corner of the campus. They keep the campus clean everyday. Sanitary napkins are available in all the girls hostels. Every school have their own library and there is also Ananda Rangapillai library, the common library declined as 'library of the week' by The Oxford University Press on 5th June 2019. They also provide good food.
We have highly qualified and experienced Professors, and visiting Professors. Our syllabus is net oriented. And research scholar's have excavated many places and found many archaeological remains. syllabus is also up to dated.
We don't have any placements programmes in our department. But many of our students got placements in various colleges and universities in all over India after completing their studies. This department also developed many brilliant research scholars . UPSC and NET coaching is also provided to students.
Comparing to rest of the central universities Pondicherry university is very costly. Our academic fee is above 15000. For girls, they don't need to pay hostel rent as it is free for them. But the money is worth to pay, because the department provides many enlightening programmes for the students.
We are experiencing funnest and friendliest campus life here in Pondicherry university. Both outside and inside the campus is safe for students , we celebrate almost all the festivals here in the campus. Students and departments conducts sports activities. It can handle all the emergencies. The beach right in front of the university, shopping complex, Silver Jubilee campus, canteen are the most favorite places for the students. Here campus life is awesome.
My life changed after joing here. I was an introvert before
Good infrastructure comparatively to other Universities. We have the best common and large library and School of Social Sciences has a separate library as well. Class rooms have normal facilities and good enough. When coming to sports facilities we have two Stadiums and extra 2 grounds, two tennis court, basket ball court, two volley ball court. University also has one Men's Gym and one Lady's Gym. Hostel infrastructure is good. There are 13 boys hostel and 8 women's hostels. 24×7 free wifi too.
I'm studying Integrated MA in Sociology.I love Studying Sociology.Sociology department is one of the best department in the university with good quality of teaching. And our curriculum is up to date and revised.
Sociology aluminies are placed in various universities and in collages as assistant professors and guest faculties. Also in Civil services. And other subject oriented jobs. Department is not conducting any placement programmes.
The course fee for one year is rupees 9200 excluding hostel fees. As far as tuition fee is concerned the course is worth spending money and you get quality teaching.
The campus life will be excellent and worth living in the campus. The campus is 780 acres and it is safe and it also have an health centre inside the campus and also ambulance service is also available.
