Swami Vivekananda Yoga Anusandhana Samsthana, popularly known as S-VYASA, is a deemed university in Bangalore, Karnataka. S-VYASA was set up in 2002 and it has been accredited with A + by the National Assessment and, Accreditation Council, Bangalore, and is recognised by the All India Council for Technical Education (AICTE), New Delhi. The university is dedicated to yoga education and serves as a research institution of yoga education at the undergraduate as well as postgraduate, and doctorate levels. S-VYASA is spread over 100 acres of land including 1,491 students enroled in total and 58 faculty members. It provides 45 courses in 14 degrees with the unique focus on yoga therapy, naturopathy, and yogic sciences.
S-VYASA has all the necessary amenities and many additional ones to help students succeed academically and as individuals. The campus comprises well-facilitated hostels for the male and female students so that they can live comfortably. Book and journals, and digital resources are available to the university learners and lecturers in the university library for improved learning. The atmosphere of the campus is perfect for meditation and study; there are special rooms such as yoga halls. There are also establishments for the use of sporting activities to enhance the health of the community while a separate computer sections contain state of the art equipment to support research and academics. The university provides a vast perspective of course and they are classified in different categories covering different level/standard and particular areas of specialty in yoga and related courses. The undergraduate programmes offered are B.Sc in Yoga Therapy, B.Sc in Yoga and Vedic Therapy and Bachelor of Naturopathy and Yogic Science (BNYS). M.Sc and Postgraduate diploma courses include M.Sc in Yoga Therapy, M.Sc in Yoga and Vedic Therapy and other Post Graduate Diploma Courses. Further, for the specific needs of the student, S-VYASA offers doctoral courses in yoga for the students interested in the higher level of research. The institution also delivers programs like MD in Yoga and other programmes in Yoga therapy as well as other exclusive programmes in antique medical science. Thus, the admission policy in S-VYASA has been developed in such a way that the institution targets the students who area have passion in yoga and other related courses. For most of the courses, there are two major processes of the selection: the examination provided by the university and an interview. In general, the entrance exam may test matters from the Yoga Instructor’s Course (YIC) curriculum which is an entry level program advanced by S-VYASA. But for certain disciplines such as MD Yoga and Ph.D. Yoga certain other criteria may be needed and the selection procedure may be rigorous. Another requirement which the university takes into account is previous qualifying examination results.
