24 MonthsMaster of Arts (MA) in Bengali is a full-time two years duration course and it is offered by the University of North Bengal, Siliguri. Department of Bengali commenced its journey from the University of North Bengal. The basic objectives were the promotion of Vernacular education, systematic and scholarly study of Bengali literature and language and regional languages & literature as well. In its long journey of last 47 years, it has most commendably performed its duties and successfully fulfilled its purpose. At the outset the Department was started with two teachers and thirteen students in its present location. Over the years, the number of Students, Research Scholars and Teachers have increased. It is now running with eighty-three students in each part and seven teachers. It has firmly established its worth in teaching and Research in the field of Bengali language and literature.
The candidates with Honours Degree [10+2+3 system] in the respective subject shall be eligible to apply for admission to M.A courses. Candidates who have passed UG examination three years earlier or more before the year of admission shall not be eligible for admission to MA courses (e.g., candidate passing UG examination in 2015 or before shall not be eligible for admission in P.G. courses.
Admission to all courses shall be made on the basis of such principles of selection as may be laid down.
