AIMCMR Guwahati Admission Process

AIMCMR: an institute that is purely devoted to mass communications and media studies. The future media experts trained at AIMCMR are made comprehensive of the industry's approaches. Admission is then structured in which it only selects candidates with very high intrinsic motivation towards media and communication.

AIMCMR offers two postgraduate courses: a two-year MA course in Mass Communication and a one-year Postgraduate Diploma in Journalism and Mass Communication. Usually, the admission process starts in the months before this academic year, which normally commences either in July or August.

Generally the eligibility criterion for admission in various programs at AIMCMR is that the candidate should possess a bachelor's degree in any discipline from any recognized university.

Application Process

Usually, here are the processes to apply for admission in AIMCMR programs:

1. Visit the official AIMCMR website and navigate straight through to the admissions tab.

2. Download the admission prospectus for proper reading. It contains detailed information on programs, eligibility criteria, and application processes.

3. Generate an application form and duly fill it with true personal and academic details. Ensure that all fields required are complete.

4. Pay the applicable application fee as prescribed by the institute. Payment methods will be mentioned in the application instructions.

5. Assemble and ready all the required papers:

  • Passport-sized photographs
  • Proof of identity (Aadhar card, PAN card, or passport)
  • Mark sheets and certificates of 10th, 12th, and undergraduate degree
  • Work experience certificates or internship letters (if applicable)
  • Any other documents specified in the admission guidelines

6. Submit the completed application along with all required documents before the specified deadline. Submission might be online or by post, as indicated by the institute.

7. Candidates shall be called to appear for shortlisted candidates for a written test and/or personal interview. Prepare accordingly by staying updated on current affairs, brushing up on the communication skills, and reviewing basic concepts of mass media.

8. The list of candidates finally selected will be published and available on the AIMIT website or otherwise will be directly communicated to applicants.

9. Selected candidates would complete admission formalities and pay their fees along with the submission of original documents for verification within the time period stipulated by the institute.

Degree wise Admission Process

MA in Mass Communication: The two-year postgraduate degree program under this course is for aspirants who wish to learn different aspects covered under mass communication. Admission into the program will include rigorous assessment on academic credentials, aptitude test in media studies, and excellent communication skills by the candidates. Final selection of such candidates will probably include a written test and/or personal interview as part of the process.

PGD in Journalism and Mass Communication: This is a one-year Postgraduate Diploma course designed to provide an intense course focusing on the practicalities of journalism and mass communication. As such, the admission process meant for this course will probably involve assessment of the candidate's writing competence, awareness of current affairs, and understanding of skills necessary for media work. It may also include a written test as well as a personal interview to be conducted for evaluation of applicants.

The Diploma in Journalism and Mass Communication course: This is an entry-level diploma offering students a very basic introduction to and skills in journalism and mass communication. The admission process for this course will probably conduct evaluation of academic records as well as a very basic aptitude test, and possibly an interview to measure interest and potential to work in the field.

You haven't mentioned the course you want to go for. However, the official website of Assam Institute of Mass Communication and Media Research shows that the admission for the academic year 2020-2021 has started already. The last date to submit your application is 12th July, 2020. The seats are limited and hence applicants are requested to apply asap.

The eligibility criteria for MA in Mass Communication is that a candidate must have graduated from a recognised university in any discipline with a 45% aggregate score. PGD in mass communication and journalism candidates can apply for the admission directly in the 3rd semester as well.

For PGD in Mass Communication and Journalism, the  eligibility criteria is that a candidate must have graduated from a recognised university with a minimum aggregate score of 45%.
