Burdwan Institute of Pharmacy, Bardhaman Admission Process

Burdwan Institute of Pharmacy, Bardhaman, is one of the famous institutes for pharmaceutical education of high standards in the state of West Bengal. At the institute, admission procedures are maintained with a simple orientation as per the needs of the students. The institute, through its Diploma in Pharmacy (D.Pharma) course, intends to give good knowledge in the field of pharmaceutical sciences.

The main aim of the admission process is to select the best among candidates intending to make pharmacy their career. Entrance test merit may be counted for the admission process for consideration of applicants along with merit achieved in the last qualifying exam. One of the foremost entrance exams considered for admission into this institute is the Joint Entrance Examination for Polytechnics West Bengal (JEXPO).

With regard to the academic session around July or August, usually, thereafter the admission cycle may commence; however, the dates will change every year with variation in conducting authorities, but it is advisable for candidates who aspire for admission to start on their application preparation far in advance of the admission program dates, preferably in early spring.

Application Process

The admission process in this institute has a simple and smooth application mechanism. A short description is stated herewith stepwise:

  1. Entrance Exam: Get prepared for and appear in the Joint Entrance Examination for Polytechnics West Bengal or any relevant qualifying entrance examination for which the candidates are entitled.

  2. Application Form: After the declaration of the entrance exam result, eligible candidates may collect the application form from the institute admission office.

  3. Filling of Form: Fill in the application form with correct personal and academic record.

  4. The collection of documents:

    • Passport size photographs

    • 10th and 12th mark sheets and certificates

    • Entrance exam scorecard

    • Domicile certificate (if applicable)

    • Category certificate (if applicable)

    • Any other document prescribed by the institute

  5. Submission: Properly filled application form along with the above-said documents shall be submitted at the admission office.

  6. Application fee: Pay application fee as directed by the institute.

  7. Subsequently, the merit list shall be prepared based on entrance exam scores/qualifying exam scores.

  8. The merit-cum-choice based admission shall involve counseling followed by allotment of seats.

  9. Confidentially grant admission by depositing the fee and submitting required documents for verification.

  10. Thereafter the candidates will have to attend the orientation programme to familiarize themselves with the institute and syllabuses.

  11. Periods of follow-up by candidates to the admission office on any news or updates in the processes.

Degree-wise Admission Process

Diploma in Pharma (D.Pharma) Admission Process by Degree:
The D.Pharma course is a two-year undergraduate course designed to give the students a comprehensive understanding of the pharmaceutical sciences. The approved intake of the institute for this course is 60 seats.

Admission is mainly based on the performance of the candidates in the relevant entrance examination, mostly the Joint Entrance Examination for Polytechnics West Bengal (JEXPO). However, on the basis of the merit in the last qualifying examination (10+2 or equivalent), a candidate may be able to gain admission.

Eligibility criteria include:

  • Successful completion of the 10+2 or equivalent examination from a recognized board

  • Physics, Chemistry, and Biology/Mathematics must have been studied in 10+2 as compulsory subjects

  • Aggregate marks must be as per the mandates of the institute (normally around 50% but subject to change)

  • JEXPO or any other relevant entrance examination accepted by the institute must be qualified
