Dr Joseph Mar Thoma Institute of Pharmaceutical Sciences and Research, Alappuzha Admission Process

Dr. Joseph Mar Thoma Institute of Pharmaceutical Sciences and Research, Alappuzha, is a private co-education institute for pharmacy education, the institute is situated on an 18-acre campus in Alappuzha, Kerala. The admission process at Dr. Joseph Mar Thoma Institute engages the qualified candidates for its various pharmacy programs. The institute offers three pharmacy courses: two UG programs (Bachelor of Pharmacy and Diploma in Pharmacy) and one PG program (Master of Pharmacy in Pharmacy Practice). The first three degrees are offered as full-time courses. The admission process is different in every program since there is a specific admission process based on entrance exam result for B. Pharma only.

The admission to B. Pharma is through merit seats filled from the Kerala Engineering Architecture Medical (KEAM) Entrance examination. The merit list is published by the Government of Kerala through the Office of Commissioner of Entrance Examinations (CEE), Thiruvananthapuram. This procedure guarantees fairness and competition, where deserving candidates find an entry into their respective pharmacy program. Hence, students are advised to check on the deadlines and eligibility criteria of the admissions which are usually given by the CEE for the B.Pharma program.

Application Process

The application procedure at Dr. Joseph Mar Thoma Institute of Pharmaceutical Sciences and Research differs from one course to another:

B.Pharma:

  1. Candidates become eligible through the KEAM entrance examination, organized by the CEE in Kerala.
  2. Following the announcement of KEAM results, successful candidates must register for the centralized allotment process through the official website of the CEE.
  3. During the allotment period, candidates will be able to exercise options regarding colleges and courses.
  4. Candidates with allotted seats at Dr. Joseph Mar Thoma Institute must complete the procedure for verification of documents and admission with the institution within the stipulated period.
  5. Basic documents include KEAM scorecard, 10+2 marksheets along with certificates, proof of age, domicile certificate (if applicable) and other relevant certificates as specified by CEE and the institute.

For D.Pharma and M.Pharma programs, admissions are vaguely stated, but generally they may include the following steps:

  1. Checking the official website of the institute or contacting the admissions office to see if the application announcement has come.
  2. Filling the application form along with required documents, which may include previous academic records, entrance exam scores (if applicable), and other certificates as specified by the institute.
  3. Paying the prescribed application fee to the institute.
  4. Attending any interviews or counseling sessions if required by the institute.

Degree Wise Admission Process

B.Pharma: An intake has been approved for the Bachelor of Pharmacy Program at Dr. Joseph Mar Thoma Institute for 60 seats. This institute deals with admission for this program based on the merit list of the KEAM Entrance examination. Candidates must qualify in the KEAM exam conducted by the CEE, Kerala. The selection thereafter is done by the centralized allotment process done by the CEE.

D.Pharma: The Diploma in Pharmacy program also has an approved intake of 60 seats. Detailed admission specifications for this program are not indicated here, but likely, the institution would be following the roundabout admission procedures set down by the state's pharmacy authorities.

M.Pharma (Pharmacy Practice): Approved intake of 12 seats for the Master's in Pharmacy degree program in Pharmacy Practice. Though not specifically stated, one would expect that the admission procedure for this postgraduate program will consider the degree performance of candidates in their B.Pharma and/or a relevant postgraduate pharmacy entrance examination.
