Government Law College, Ernakulam, is one of the oldest government law colleges in India. Nestled in Kochi, Kerala, this great institution confers law degrees approved by the Bar Council of India. Admission to the college is based on merit for different programs at the undergraduate, postgraduate, and doctoral levels. The admission cycle usually starts with the onset of the academic year in August-September. In the case of applying to undergraduate and postgraduate programs, most invite the candidates through entrance tests conducted by the Commissioner for Entrance Examinations, Government of Kerala. These tests, based on merit, provide a great deal of prestige to the applicants vying for these programs, thus ensuring that only the really deserving candidates are admitted into the rolls of the College.
For admission to LLB or Integrated Course undergraduate programs, qualification is dependent upon Kerala Law Entrance Examination, which is the most important selection stage wherein all candidates must show their aptitude and knowledge in related subjects. Another major process is the entrance examination conducted for admission into the Master in Law namely LLM. Eligibility norms differ between various programs. Candidates for the three-year LLB course are eligible if they have obtained their bachelor's degree in any discipline from a recognized university. In the case of integrated courses such as B.Com LLB, students who have completed 10+2 level may apply. For the postgraduate programs, students who possess an LLB from a recognized university can apply for the LLM.
Application Process
Government Law College, Ernakulam, has a varying procedure for application, depending on the program concerned. But every process essentially passes through the following, broadly speaking:
1. Entrance Examination: Most of the programs require candidates to appear for the Kerala Law Entrance Examination (KLEE), which is being conducted by the Commissioner for Entrance Examinations, Government of Kerala.
2. Application Submission: After the declaration of the entrance exam results, eligible candidates can proceed to apply with the college, through the application form, made available on the official website of the Commissioner for Entrance Examination or the college website.
3. Document Verification: Candidates shortlisted after the selection process are then called upon to submit the necessary documents for verification. These documents could include:
4. Counselling Process: Qualified candidates may be called for a counselling session during which they could select their preferred course based on their rank and availability of seats.
5. Fee Payment: After the allotment of seats, candidates shall pay the requisite fee to confirm their admission.
6. Final Admission: When all the above processes have been successfully completed, candidates are finally admitted into the program of their choice.

There is enough freedom on academics. The curriculum is not updated which is a defect on the university's side. The teachers are well qualified. The study definitely equips you for the real world by the end of the course.
