Pragathi Charities College of Special Education, Nellore Admission Process

Pragathi Charities College of Special Education, is one of the few specialized colleges for training personnel in the area of special education. Located in Andhra Pradesh, affiliated to A.P. University of Health Sciences, this college operates a full-fledged co-educational system,  The admission process at Pragathi Charities College of Special Education was aimed at admitting students who have commitment and qualification for specializations in the programs. The college offers four full-time programs spanning mainly two major programs: D.Ed (Diploma in Education) and B.Ed (Bachelor of Education) in Special Education.

For D.Ed admissions, merit is determined on the basis of marks obtained in the qualifying examination and/or entrance examination as defined by the State Government or UT administration. The B.Ed Special Education admissions, on the other hand, have some specific eligibility criteria whereby candidates must have secured at least 50% in their Bachelor's Degree and Master's Degree in Sciences, Social Sciences, or Humanities.

For D.Ed Special Education programs:

Depending on the nature of the programs and the state government or UT administration policy, the specific selection procedure might differ. These programs are specially designed to train teachers that teach students suffering from mental retardation or hearing impairment.

B.Ed Special Education (Mental Retardation): The students desiring admission for the B.Ed Special Education in Mental Retardation need to secure at least 50% marks in both their Bachelor's degree and Master's degree in Sciences, Social Sciences or Humanities. Alternatively, students who have a Bachelor's in Engineering or Technology, specializing in Science and Mathematics with 55% marks, will also work. The program focuses on preparing educators to work with students with intellectual disabilities.

B.Ed Special Education (Visual Impairment): The eligibility criteria for B.Ed Special Education in Visual Impairment remain similar to that of the Mental Retardation specialization. Candidates are required to secure at least 50% marks in their Bachelor's and Master's degree in Sciences, Social Sciences, or Humanities. Engineers or Technology graduates with 55% marks in Science and Mathematics specializations are also eligible. This program trains educators to work with visually impaired students.
