For undergraduate studies, students who have done their 10+2 education with science subjects (Physics, Chemistry, and Mathematics/Biology) from a recognised board are eligible to apply for. Usually, this selection is done on the basis of performance in the qualifying examination. For postgraduate programmes, students must have obtained their bachelor's degree in the relevant discipline from a recognised university.
B.Sc. Programmes offered by the institute in Microbiology, Chemistry, Physics, Mathematics, and Computer Science are on a merit basis considering the marks obtained in the 10+2 examination.

B.Sc Microbiology and Chemistry: 180 seats
B.Sc Physics and Mathematics: 90 seats each
B.Sc Computer Science: 30 seats
Admission to M.Sc programmes in Microbiology, Mathematics, Organic Chemistry, Biotechnology, Physics, Analytical Chemistry, Physical Chemistry, Inorganic Chemistry, and Information Technology is based on academic merit calculated with consideration of marks obtained in bachelor's degree relevant to the subject.

M.Sc Microbiology and M.Sc Mathematics: 180 seats each
M.Sc Organic Chemistry: 160 seats
M.Sc Biotechnology and M.Sc Physics: 90 seats each
M.Sc Analytical Chemistry: 60 seats
