Founded in 2016, St Theresa College of Education, Dharwad, is a young institution with a clear mission and goals of the further change in the sphere of education. Being a co-educational college, located in Jyothinagar, Alnavar in the district of Dharwad, Karnakata, it is an affiliated college recognised by the National Council for Teacher Education (NCTE). Located in a single campus of 5.22 acres, the college allows the students a concentrated atmosphere to ensure the course of education runs smoothly. At present, the number of students is 83 while the faculties are 9 in number. St. Theresa’s offers suitable student-teacher ratio to support the proper growth of its students’ personality along with academic improvement.
St. Theresa College of Education boasts of well-facilitated and development-sensitive drainage systems for wholesome human development. The core of academic offering includes a well-stocked library with 2350 books and 4 journals to ensure students get easily acquainted with any knowledge they need. It has Computer Integrated Education facilities comprising of computer laboratory for proper orientation in IT, subject based laboratories and auditorium facility for conducting seminar or events. At the moment, St. Theresa College of Education has only one course offered by the institution, the Bachelor of Education (B.Ed) programme. This is a two years full time course with approved capacity of intake of 50 students and it is important in supporting the college mandate of offering quality education through small classes. The B.Ed programme is conceptualised to prepare students in acquiring knowledge, skills, and required practical experience in teaching profession. St. Theresa College of Education, Dharwad is a co-educational institution and is affiliated to the National Council for Teacher Education (NCTE). The college is geared toward developing quality teachers with special emphasis on present-day industrial practices. Admission to St. Theresa College is therefore charged with selecting candidates from excellent academic backgrounds, with an abiding interest in teaching.
As far as admission policies are concerned, the college follows the directions laid down by the state government and the affiliated university. Selection of candidates is, however, completely on the basis of merit, which is determined by performance in the qualifying examination, entrance tests, or any other means prescribed for evaluation. In this manner, the college ensures that only those students with a great academic record and great promise in the teaching profession are admitted for study.
Eligibility criteria for admission will generally be on the lines of the stipulation of the NCTE and the affiliated university. The candidates are expected to pass their higher secondary school examination (10+2) or equivalent education from a board recognized by the NCTE. Application Process
St. Theresa College of Education, Dharwad, has the following general admission procedure:
1. Candidates are to check eligibility first for the B.Ed Program from out of the declared standards by the college and the affiliated university.
2. Eligible candidates are to obtain an application form which shall possibly be available at the college admission office.
3. The application form is to be filled precisely and with full details related to personal and academic records.
4. The documents required by the college are to be attached; these generally include the following:
mark sheets of qualifying Examinations (10th, 12th, and graduation)
valid proof of identity
recent passport-size photograph
other certificates or documents as instructed by the college
5. Afterwards, the application form, along with the above-mentioned documents, is to be submitted to the admission office of the college before the due date.
6. In case of an entrance examination, the candidate must appear for the examination on the prescribed date.
7. While making a move towards preparing the merit list, the college shall watch that all such candidates are allotted merit lists according to their performance records in the qualifying examination and/or entrance exam policies laid down by the state government and the university.
8. Counseling and seat allotment: Counseling would be conducted for shortlisted candidates, where the allotment of seats would be done on a merit basis subject to availability.
9. Document verification: Selected candidates will need to bring their original documents for verification.
10. Fee payment: After verification successful students must deposit an admission fee to secure the seat.
11. Orientation: Students who have been successfully admitted will go through an orientation program, which aims to familiarize them with the college and the B.Ed program.
Degree-wise Admission Process
B.Ed.: St. Theresa College of Education, Dharwad provides a full-time two-year Bachelor of Education (B.Ed.) program, with a sanctioned intake of 50 students for this program. Admission to the B.Ed program is based on merit, which considers marks obtained in the qualifying examination and/or performance in entrance examination as specified by the policies of the state government and affiliated university.
