Thai Moogambigai Dental College and Hospital (TMDCH), Chennai, is a well-known institution that offers comprehensive dental education. The DCI-approved college has a stringent admission process to select the most appropriate candidates for its various dental courses. TMDCH offers both undergraduate (BDS) and postgraduate (MDS) courses, and admissions are mainly through national-level entrance examinations.
Admission to the BDS course is on the basis of the National Eligibility cum Entrance Test (NEET) as per the directives of the Directorate General of Health Services (DGHS). The college is permitted for an approved intake of 100 seats in the BDS course. The candidates have to clear the NEET exam to take admission.
Postgraduate admission for Master of Dental Surgery (MDS) courses is by way of the NEET MDS examination. TMDCH runs MDS courses in specializations such as Orthodontics and Dentofacial Orthopedics, Oral and Maxillofacial Surgery, Conservative Dentistry and Endodontics, Prosthodontics, Periodontology, Paedodontics and Preventive Dentistry, Oral Pathology, and Oral Medicine and Radiology.
Application Process
Process of application at Thai Moogambigai Dental College and Hospital varies according to undergraduate as well as postgraduate courses:
For BDS Programme:
1. Clear the cutoff mark in NEET exam.
2. Take application for counseling at DGHS or state counseling board.
3. Choose TMDCH as the first preference during the counseling.
4. Attend TMDCH on document verification and admission process after getting a seat allotted.
5. Deposit the fee and complete the admission process at the college.
For MDS Courses:
1. Sit and clear the NEET MDS exam.
2. Complete the application form for All India Quota counseling conducted by DGHS or state counseling.
3. Preferred MDS specialty and TMDCH can be selected while counseling.
4. In case the seat is reserved, go for document verification and admission process in TMDCH.
5. Complete the admission process by providing documents and payment of fees.
Degree wise Admission Process
BDS (Bachelor of Dental Surgery): TMDCH's BDS course has 100 intake capacity. The candidates get admission to the BDS course on merit in the NEET exam. The eligibility is passing the NEET exam and obtaining the cutoff marks as per the DGHS guidelines. The candidates must pass 10+2 with main subjects as Physics, Chemistry, and Biology.
MDS (Master of Dental Surgery): TMDCH has eight specializations under MDS courses with their corresponding intake capacity:
1. Orthodontics and Dentofacial Orthopedics (6 seats)
2. Oral and Maxillofacial Surgery (5 seats)
3. Conservative Dentistry and Endodontics (5 seats)
4. Prosthodontics (5 seats)
5. Periodontology (5 seats)
6. Paedodontics and Preventive Dentistry (3 seats)
7. Oral Pathology (3 seats)
8. Oral Medicine and Radiology (2 seats)
The eligibility for all the MDS programs is through NEET MDS examination. Candidates must have acquired their BDS degree and must have fulfilled other requisites as outlined by the Dental Council of India and NEET MDS ordinance.
