Now a days automobile sector is going through alot of loss so there is a slight change in career in mechanical engineering but only in private sector,

If you focus on government exams like GATE, IES , IAS or PSUs  exam then I assure you that you'll have a great career ahead

The package depends on many factors like :

Institutes: if you have taken degree from top colleges like iit, nit, iisr and other package will be more than other colleges.

Company:- Top company gives high packages.

Your performance report: -If best performance in academics then you must get high package.
