B.D.S.
Hi Ayush,
We understand your concern, as NEET is a very competitive exam you need at least 550 or more to get admission into a decent MBBS college not a top tier college as it would require 650 to 700 marks in NEET.
Now, it is good as you are keeping BDS/ BAMS or BHMS as backup option and then reappearing for NEET exam next year. But, be sure that you can simultaneously prepare for NEET while studying BAMS.
If you strongly feel to pursue for MBBS then you may even take a complete year drop with good preparation for 2026 NEET exam but if you want to minimize the risk, it is better to opt for BAMS/ BDS and then trying your luck again in 2026 exam. If you have got 173 marks in NEET, then getting a government BDS seat is not possible. Government dental colleges usually need higher marks, even for reserved categories. Most of the time, BDS cut off for government colleges is above 400 marks.
But with 173 marks, you may still get a seat in a private BDS college, especially in the last round of counselling or through management quota. The chances depend on your category, state, and the availability of seats in private colleges.
You should take part in both All India and State counselling. Also, keep private and deemed universities as backup options if you are okay with higher fees.

You are from the SC category. Your NEET All India Rank is 623181 and your SC category rank is 69831.
With this rank, it is very difficult to get a government MBBS seat. Most SC students who get MBBS seats in government colleges usually have better ranks, generally below 40000. So the chance of MBBS admission in a government college is very low for your rank.
However, for BDS (Bachelor of Dental Surgery), there may be some chances. The cut-off for BDS is lower than MBBS. In some states, students with SC category ranks like yours have got government BDS seats in the last round of counselling. So you should try in your state quota and also through All India Quota.
You should take part in both All India and state counselling and fill all possible options to increase your chances.

Hello,
Your prospects of being admitted to government BDS Institutes extremely low if you is scored 221 on the NEET 2025 and are in the SC category, as the cutoff is offence significantly higher. But you could still stands in private dental college, deemed colleges and college through management quota.
What You should do?
Hey! With 106 marks in NEET 2025, getting admission to a government BDS seat is not likely, but you still have a chance through management quota in private dental colleges across India. These seats are usually open to students with lower NEET scores, especially during the mop-up and stray vacancy rounds of counselling.
To get started, make sure you register for counselling in your state or in states that allow open-state applications like Karnataka, Tamil Nadu, or Uttar Pradesh. Even private colleges admit students strictly through the NEET counselling process, so it's important to stay updated on counselling schedules and apply on time.
Management quota seats can be expensive, with annual fees ranging from eight to fifteen lakhs, depending on the college and state. But if you're determined to pursue BDS, this path is still a valid option.
All the best!
Hello aspirant!
With a NEET score of 165, getting admission in BDS (Bachelor of Dental Surgery) in a government college is not likely, as the cutoff is usually much higher. But you still have options in private dental colleges, especially those with relatively low fees and decent infrastructure.
Some private BDS colleges offer seats at scores below 200 under management quota or state quota depending on the state. Fees vary from college to college, but some private colleges offer BDS at a lower budget compared to others.
Here are a few to consider:
Madhya Pradesh has some private dental colleges with moderate fees and a good reputation.
Karnataka offers several private BDS colleges where admission is possible at lower scores, though fees can be on the higher side.
Uttar Pradesh has a large number of private colleges, and you may find budget-friendly options there.
Tamil Nadu and Rajasthan also have some colleges where BDS admission at 165 is possible.
I personally suggest that you apply through the state counselling of states that allow open category admissions, even if you are from a different state. That increases your chances of finding a suitable college.
