i like to study about food and its processing, abouts its nutrition, packaging and theory beside food. but iam doubt what cource i will take bsc food technology or btec food technology

JAYA KARTHIKA RS 11th Sep, 2020

Hello,

  1. B.Sc Food Technology and B.Tech Food Technology may sound as similar courses, but both of them have  a lot of differences in terms of curriculum, career scope, admission process and duration. Judging the best course among the two depends on various factors like your area of interest, the college that you choose and your determination to pursue one among these courses
  2. B.Sc in Food Technology is pure science and covers the principles and theory of food technology, B.Tech in Food Technology is applied science that covers theory and practicals.
  3. The fees of B.Sc Food Technology is low as compared to B.Tech Food Technology in private colleges in India. Candidates must check the fee structure of specific institutes before applying for the same.
  4. B.Sc in Food Technology can be a good choice for a student who wants to become a researcher, scientist, professor in a filed associated with food science and technology. However, one who wants to work as professionals in food industries can pursue B.Tech in Food Technology course.
  5. B.Tech in Food Technology is a useful course for students who are interested in understanding the practical implementation of food science and technology and subjects associated with the course.B.Tech in Food Technology is a challenging course. Students who have the passion and ready to accept challenging tasks throughout the course must only join B.Tech in Food Technology
  6. B.Sc in Food Technology is a good course for students who are more interested in understanding the theoretical concepts of food science and technology.Students who have a passion to go for research work in the food industry must opt for B.Sc in food technology. After the competition of the course, they can pursue M.Sc in Food Technology and later on pursuing a PhD. B.Sc in Food Technology is a gateway for students to become scientists, professors and researcher in future.

I have been allotted Mock seat in Food technologies at NIFTEM Sonipat. Is this branch good to join? Kindly suggest , whether I should go for this, if this seat is finally allotted to me ? OR Should I go for CS in private college/university.?

Shakti Swarupa Bhanja 19th Oct, 2020

Hello Shubham, hope you are well!

I will provide you a clear picture about the course taught in NIFTEM, Sonipat and will try to explain how useful will it be if you accept your seat. If you choose CS in other colleges over NIFTEM, then it is your interest and depends on what decision you will take.

This course is not plain B.Tech Food Technology but it is B.Tech in Food technology and Management. So, it is an unique course. It is an Integrated course offering you deep knowledge of all aspects of food science and business studies(management studies is a plus point if you are a MBA aspirant). As it is an institute of national importance, you have one of the best state of art lab facilities with some excellent faculties. This course is not only limited to bio-background students. The non-bio students are also taught about the strong basic fundamentals of biology in the starting semesters. The demand of this field will never decrease because food is required by everybody.

If you consider placements, NIFTEM is among the best institutes for placements in the field of food tech. Max package is o f 14 LPA and minimum package is of 4 LPA. Major food companies like Nestle, Mondelez, ITC (Foods Division), ITC (Agri Business Division), Amul, HDFC Bank, TetraPak, Mother Dairy, TastyBites, Snowman logistics and startups like Ninjacart, Licious, Baker’s Dozen etc. take part in the placement process(avg. pay scale is 6.5-6.8 lakh)

Now that I have explained the reasons you should accept your seat alloted in NIFTEM, further choice lies in your hand. In my opinion, you must go for this course as it is offered by a premier institute of that field.

Hope this helps:)
