Please give details regarding instrumentation engineering

Baisakh Sarangi 18th Jun, 2019

Hello Aspirant!

Nature of work of an instrumentation engineer ranges from designing, developing, installing, managing equipments that are used to monitor and control machinery. Instruments at home and elsewhere is only because of the science of instrumentation. The discipline of instrumentation engineering branched out of the streams of electrical and electronic engineering some time in the early part of 1970s.

Instrumentation engineering is the branch of engineering that specialises on the principle and operation of measuring instruments that are used in fields of design, configuration of automated systems in electrical, pneumatic domains, etc.

Good Luck!!!

What is instrumentation engineering

prateek payasi 17th Jun, 2019

hii Dheeraj ,

Instrumentation engineering is the branch of engineering that specialises on the principle and operation of measuring instruments that are used in fields of design, configuration of automated systems in electrical, pneumatic domains . The  required tasks are very domain dependent; instrumentation engineers typically work for industries with automated process with the goal of improving the productivity, reliability, safety, optimisation and stability. Instrumentation engineers are commonly responsible for integrating the sensors with the recorders, transmitters, displays or control systems. They may design or specify installation, wiring and signal conditioning. They may be responsible for calibration, testing and maintenance of the system.

Gate exam books for electronics and instrumentation engineering

shubhangi verma 18th Jun, 2019
Hello Naveen,

I am also an instrumentation student so i can guide you how to prepare well for your exams. Its really good that you are preparing for the exam so early because many students starts there preparation late and hence won't able to manage good score in GATE.

GATE will help you to get admission into IITs and NITs for post graduation and also helps you to get job in PSU companies so its really important to secure good score in GATE.

For the GATE pattern it consists of 100 questions where 20 questions are for general aptitude which is scoring in nature but still you have to practice different types of questions. And rest 80 questions are from your core subjects. For scoring in this part you really need to focus on some subjects from where maximum number of questions asked like analog circuits, digital circuits, signals and systems and engineering mathematics not only this sometimes questions are asked by merging two subjects so you really need to be prepared for all kind of questions.

For books i suggest you to go for books published by Arihant publisher there is a book name 'GATE tutor' where all subjects are covered with all topics for Instrumentation and also general aptitude. This book covers previous year solved papers and different level of questions with solved answers.

I also suggest that if you find difficulty in preparing on your own, you can join couching classes but for that you need to manage your time with your college hours and studies so it may be tiring. But coaching classes have facilities like they will guide you for different level of questions and how to manage doing questions in short time because they give more questions to practice and you can join online coaching classes too.

I also suggest that while preparing, join test series where it helps you to understand that which subjects or topics you are lacking and need more practice.

This answer seems to be long but it will surely help you in your preparation but one need to prepare for it seriously.

Hope this will help you and all the best.

Sir/mam.. please tell me what is the best study material recommend for gate instrumentation engineering??

vikashkr894_9303636 Student Expert 12th Jun, 2019

You have two options to go with,

The first one is just to buy either ace academy or made easy study material and buy reference books of those subjects only in which you are not comfortable.

The second option is to buy reference books of all subjects and previous year questions book from either ace or made easy.

So I am listing some of the good reference books which will be helpful for your gate preparation.

Circuit Analysis:- Fundamentals of Electric circuits by Charles K. Alexander, Matthew N. O. Sadiku. Or Electric Circuits from Schaum series by Mahmood Nahvi, Joseph Edminister.

Transducers:- A course in Mechanical Measurements and Instrumentation & Control by A.K Sawhney.

Digital Electronics:- Fundamentals of digital circuits by A. Anand Kumar and Digital logic & Computer design by M. Morris Mano.

8085 microprocessor:- Microprocessor architecture programming and applications by Ramesh Gaonkar.

Analog Electronics:- Electronic Devices And circuits theory by Robert L. Boylestad, Louis Nashelsky AND Op-Amps and Linear Integrated circuits by Ramakant A. Gayakwad

Signals and Systems:- Signals and Systems by Tarun Kumar Rawat.

Communication:- Communication systems: Analog and Digital by Sanjay Sharma.

Measurements:- A Course in Electrical And Electronic measurements And Instrumentation by A.K. Sawhney, Puneet Sawhney.

Control Systems:- Linear Control systems with MATLAB Applications by B.S. Manke.

Engineering Mathematics:- Advanced Engineering Mathematics – HK Dass. OR Higher Engineering Mathematics – B.S. Grewal.

General aptitude:- Buy any coaching study material for this. OR Quantitative aptitude by RS Agarwal.

How is instrumentation and control engineering department at haldia institute of technology?

muskan.sunitaydv_9765333 Student Expert 21st Jul, 2019

Hello there,

Haldia Institute of Technology ( HIT ) is an engineering institute in west Bengal India, approved by All India Council For Technical Education (AICTE), new delhi and affiliated to Maulana abdul kalam azad university of technology (MAKAUT). Haldia Institute of technology ranked "174" among engineering colleges in India by the National Institutional Ranking Framework (NIRF) in 2019.

The placement is average. There are not many core placements from ICE. If you are interested in IT placements then that can happen. The best is to prepare yourself for a good GATE score and then get into any PSU. HIT's Instrumentation Engineering Dept offers you good opportunities for PSUs.

The teaching standard is above average and you can always do well by putting those extra hours from your side.

Hope this helps.
