will dropping a year cost badly if I want to get admission in foreign universities after 12

Sentila Longkumer 20th Feb, 2019

hey, taking a gap or giving an improvement exam will not affect anything if you are worried about it. If you do well in your exam and also on the SAT they will consider your marks. People take long gaps between their studies, of course, it will be a disadvantage because they are losing a year but it will in no way affect the admission process if you do really well in your exams.

I hope this helped.

Best wishes

What is the min. score I need to get in SAT to get an admission in Harvard and is there any donation method to get into Harvard....pls reply

anika ravi kumar 30th Mar, 2019

Hey mrunal!

The 25th percentile new sat score is 1460 and the 75th percentile sat score is 1590.

In other words a 1460 places you below average while a 1590 will move you up to above average. There is no absolute sat requirement at Harvard but they want to see at least a 1460 to have a chance at being considered.

Wish you all the best!

Sumedha Saxena 24th Feb, 2019

Hello Sakthi Grish,

What is SAT and why is it taken?

  • SAT is a standardized admission test run by a non-profit organisation called College Board in USA. SAT is believed to be an effective measure of intellectual capabilities and potential.
  • SAT is a standardized test which shows schools your readiness for college by testing you in areas of reading comprehensions, computational capabilities and expressional clarity.
  • Most of the colleges in USA, New Zealand, UK, Canada and Australia widely accept SAT scores in order to get admissions in undergraduate courses.
  • The SAT has 10 sections - first is an essay, then two reading, two math, one writing and one experimental section all these are of 25 minutes each, this is then followed by a 20 minutes reading section, a 20 minutes math sections, and a 10 minute writing section.
  • The SAT score is given between the range of 400 to 1600. The average score falls somewhere around 1000, however to get one of the top universities you will need to get a score above 1300.
  • The best time to take the SAT is in your 11th grade or the start of your 12th grade. This will give you enough time to improve your score.
  • This score is valid for 5 years.

About SAT Subject Tests:

  • SAT Subject Tests are college admission examinations based on certain specific subjects. In this test you choose the subjects which are best suited for the career you want to pursue or the college you want to study in.
  • SAT subjects cover a basic of five areas like English, history, language, mathematics and science. It tests you in a total of 20 subjects.
  • The examination tests you on the knowledge of the subjects on a high school level.
  • You can take upto three subjects on a single day.
  • All 20 tests are not offered on the very same date.
  • SAT and SAT Subject Test cannot be taken on the same day.

Other examination necessary for admissions abroad are:

  • Test of English as a Foreign Language (TOEFL) for countries like USA and Canada.
  • International English Language Testing System (IELTS) for countries like UK, Australia and New Zealand.

The scores of TOEFL and IELTS are valid for two years. They test your reading, writing, speaking and listening skills in the English language.

All the best!

I hope this helps!

Does mit give schollarship for SAT qualified student

priyaankasarkar Student Expert 25th Mar, 2019

Dear Satish, MIT offers fully funded Scholarships to its International students. It offers many need based Scholarships which means Scholarships at MIT depend completely upon their Individual family circumstances. MIT doesn't offer any merit scholarships to students because given its reputation every student who applies has a great Academic record. If you look at the list of documents needed for International Students to apply for Scholarships, none of them ask for SAT score. It asks for your CSS profile, Parent's income Statement. SAT score is only considered as a required document for admission but not scholarship.

Is there any consideration for NRIs/PIOs? Is the SAT score considered?

Rahul Gupta 24th Mar, 2019

Hello Rishikesh,

For admissions to undergraduate courses in BITS Pilani(Pilani, Goa and Hyderabad campuses) under the international student category, one needs to be a citizen of any country other than India and should have passed the class 12th examinations with Physics, Chemistry, Maths and English with minimum 75% aggregate marks. The students have to appear for SAT and also for SAT subject tests.(Physics, Chemsitry and Maths level 2).

There is no particular consideration for NRIs or PIOs

Deep information of SAT exam and how it is important for abroad education ????

Kill Shot 6th Feb, 2019

Hi Dhaval,

SAT is a standardized test administered by the College Board and is required to be taken by students seeking admission in undergraduate schools. The full form of SAT is Scholastic Assessment Test, which was earlier known as Scholastic Aptitude Test. SAT exam has been developed to evaluate the written, verbal and mathematical skills of the candidates.

It is used by the colleges to assess the student on how well or how much more work is required on the student.

Applicants to undergraduate courses, particularly in US and Canada, are required to take the SAT exam. If the student is looking to get admission to a particular course, s/he can take the SAT subject tests to show his knowledge and understanding of that particular subject. Subject tests are offered in areas like Literature, History, Mathematics, Sciences and Foreign Languages.

SAT scores are also used by the universities to give scholarships to students and alone SAT can not get you into any college, you need to clear the language exam with it like ILETS, TOFFLE ect.

Important dates-

  • SAT Exam- March 9,2019     May 4,2019    June 1,2019
  • SAT Subject exam- May 4,2019   June 1,2019

Fees-

53$(test fees)+42$(non USA regional fees)=95$ which is nearly 6650 rupees.

26$ per subject as a basic subject fees.

For SAT subject tests, some additional fee might be required.

Test Pattern-

The SAT is divided into two sections -

  • Reading, Writing
  • Mathematics

These two sections are scored on a 200-800 point scale, for a maximum total score of 1600.

SAT subject test scores are measured on a scale of 200 to 800. There are additional subscores reported on a 20-80 scale. The scores of a student reflect on how he/she compared with other students who took the test.

An average SAT score is around 1000. Anything above 1200 is considered a good SAT score. The maximum anyone can score on SAT is the perfect score of 1600.

Rough Scholarship estimate-

  • 1050 SAT and 3.0 GPA $8492 annually
  • 1140 SAT and 3.5 GPA $9396 annually
  • 1220 SAT and 3.75 GPA $10246 annually
  • 1010 SAT and 3.5 GPA $2,000 to $4,500

How to prepare-

Students who do well on the SAT tend to be good readers who possess a good vocabulary and who can sustain the pressure of answering questions in short time as the test requires you to deal with nine sections. For the overall preparation, SAT prep is similar to other exams in the sense that you can either take the route of self-studying or attend coaching classes. For self-study you need motivation and self-discipline, to continue with the routine. This method will definitely help you save lots of time and money. However, if you feel you learn best in a classroom environment, then attending coaching classes is not a bad deal. Remember that you can choose to study on your own or through professional help, there is no right or wrong way.

I hope i have answered your doubts regarding the question.
