All the Best!!!!
Dear Prerna,
You have achieved a very decent rank to get mostly every branch in SRM main campus except CSE because you need to some under 10K rank for CSE. For the rank of 17258 you can get IT preferably, they need under 20K rank for this branch or you can get any like ECE, ME, SE, CE, Bio Medical, Mechatronics.
So if you want Mechatronics then there is 100% chance that you will get that, still if you have some query please drop your message in the reply box.
Best of Luck!!!
Currently NITs and IITs does not offer B.Tech Mechatronics Engineering but the course is offered in M.Tech level in National Institute of Technology, Surathkal and Indian Institute of Technology, Patna. If you wish to pursue your career in Mechatronics then you should complete you B.Tech and then get admission to M.Tech Mechatronics Engineering through GATE. The admission to NITs and IITs in M.Tech is on basis of merit in GATE. If you want to check more colleges offering Mechatronics Engineering click on the link below

Manipal University and SRMIST Chennai are two of the best colleges for Mechatronics having good infrastructure, faculty and providing effective technical education. However the placement and career prospects of Mechantronics are comparatively lower when compared to Mechanical Engineering. You may perhaps pursue a BTech Mechanical Engineering and hence postgraduation in Mechatronics.

In 2020 the cut off rank for admission to B.Tech Mechatronics in Manipal Institute of Technology, Manipal was 17362. Your overall rank based on the given score is expected to be around 15000. Considering the previous year cut off rank you have chances of getting seat in MIT, Manipal but cut off is subjected to change every year, it depends on the total number of candidates appeared, difficulty level of examination and total number of seats available etc. The rank corresponding to the score may vary depending on the highest score, lowest score, tie breakers, normalized score, total number of candidates appeared etc.

Dear student,
There is nothing like advantage of Mechatronics over Mechanical Engineering, both branches have their own advantages and one can excel in any of the two if determined.
Now since Mechatronics is the newer branch than Mechanical Engineering so it has come up seeing the job market trends so in terms of getting Jobs maybe you will find some upper edge over Mechanical engineering branch.
Mechatronics has vast area of applications, so it has lot to offer in different field.
Below I am mentioning some area of application of Mechatronics branch.
There is no doubt that Mechatronics is more versatile than Mechanical engineering, but no student of a particular branch is bounded to study only the branch syllabus he/she has opted for, nowadays anyone from any branch can study anything and grab the job opportunities.
I hope this answer helps you.
All the very best!!
Hi Aspirant!
I am afraid to say that VIT Vellore is no good for mechatronics or automation branch. No doubt VIT is popular for its placement records but those are only good for CSE, IT , EEE or ECE. All the other branches than these has less number of placement opportunities. The average salary offered by the recruiting companies for the branches like automation or mechtronics is no more than 3-4 LPA. I would suggest you to chose any other branch if you apply.
Thankyou!
