As the name suggests, both are almost the same and both the students will surely compete for jobs and placement opportunities. The difference being Communication Engineering deals with the Micro Controllers and Micro Processors. Satellite and Fiber communication is also included here.

In the contrary, Instrumentation Engineering has knolwedge of PLC and DCS and various other instruments for the measurement of Flow, Level, Temperature, Pressure. Various strategies for the controlling the same are also studied.
