Hii Dhanshree Narote,

If you want to pursue psychology, you'll need to choose between BA Psychology and BSc Psychology, both of which you're eligible for. Next, you'll need to select a college for admission. Most universities offer psychology courses, typically through their arts departments. Private universities like Amity University and Christ University also offer this course.

You'll then need to check if the college requires entrance exams like CUET, state-level exams, or their own exams. Some colleges offer admission based on 12th-grade marks.

After gaining admission to an undergraduate course, you can pursue a 3-year or 4-year honors degree in psychology (including research). You can then opt for a 2-year MSc in psychology. Some careers may require an MPhil.

Note that KCET is an exam for students pursuing professional courses like engineering, architecture, pharmacy, and agriculture. You don't need to take this exam for psychology, but it's essential to check the specific requirements for your desired college and career.

Admission requirements and course structures may vary across universities and colleges. It's always best to verify the specific eligibility criteria and admission processes with the institutions you're interested in.

Hello,

That's a great decision! Psychology is a rewarding field, and coming from a PCB (Physics, Chemistry, Biology) background works well for this path.

Here’s how you can pursue psychology as a career:

1. Undergraduate Degree (First Step)

To become a psychologist, you need to start with a Bachelor's degree in Psychology . You can choose from:

  • B.A. in Psychology (more theory/humanities-oriented)

  • B.Sc. in Psychology (more scientific/biology-oriented; great fit for PCB students)

Eligibility: You’re eligible for both options with a PCB background.

2. KCET & Psychology

  • KCET is not required for psychology courses.

  • KCET is mostly for engineering, pharmacy, and some agriculture/medical-related professional courses.

  • Psychology admissions are usually merit-based or through college entrance tests , depending on the institution.

3. Postgraduate Path

After your bachelor’s, go for:

  • M.A. or M.Sc. in Psychology/Applied Psychology/Clinical Psychology

  • Then, if you want to be a licensed psychologist , pursue M.Phil. in Clinical Psychology (recognized by RCI – Rehabilitation Council of India).

4. Career Options in Psychology

  • Clinical Psychologist

  • Counseling Psychologist

  • Industrial/Organizational Psychologist

  • Forensic Psychologist

  • Educational Psychologist

  • Researcher or Professor

Hello Dhanshree,

Yes, as a PCB (Physics, Chemistry, Biology) student, you are eligible to pursue psychology . Here's how you can build a career in psychology:

1. Eligibility and Course Path After 12th PCB

Since you've studied Biology, you can pursue psychology through the arts or science stream , depending on the college. Here's the path:

A. Undergraduate Courses

Choose any of the following:

  • B.A. in Psychology (offered by arts colleges)

  • B.Sc. in Psychology (offered by science colleges)

Both degrees lead to a psychology career. B.Sc. may include more scientific/biological aspects, while B.A. focuses on social/behavioral aspects.

    2. Is KCET Required?

  • KCET (Karnataka Common Entrance Test) is not required for psychology courses.

  • Admissions to B.A./B.Sc. in Psychology are generally based on 12th board marks or through college-specific entrance tests (if any).

  • KCET is only necessary for professional courses like engineering, agriculture, veterinary science, etc.

    3. Further Education

To become a qualified psychologist, higher studies are usually required:

Postgraduate Options:

  • M.A. / M.Sc. in Psychology

  • Specializations: Clinical Psychology, Counselling, Industrial, Forensic, etc.

    Doctoral/Professional Levels:

  • M.Phil. in Clinical Psychology (for RCI license to practice clinically)

  • Ph.D. in Psychology (for academic and research roles)

    4. Career Opportunities

  • Clinical Psychologist (requires M.Phil.)

  • Counselling Psychologist

  • Industrial/Organizational Psychologist

  • School/Child Psychologist

  • Researcher or Academician

  • Mental Health Counselor

I hope this answer helps you. If you have more queries then feel free to ask. We will be happy to assist you.

Thank You and wishing you a bright future ahead.
