Scope is Mechanical Engineering, is much more than Civil Engineering, be it in Private or Public Sector Enterprises. Unless you have vicinity issues, you could perhaps prefer Mechanical Engineering at IIITDM Kancheepuram, which is one of the better technical institutes in Tamil Nadu, just next to IIT Madras, NIT Trichy and Anna University. The institute has good infrastructure, faculty and research facilties. Most of the Top Companies like TVS, Ashok Leyland, GE, L&T, Bajaj recruit from the institute and secondly being located near Industrial hubs at Chennai provide impetus to training and placements.

Perhaps if you have vicinity issues, COEP Pune Civil might be a good option in that case. COEP in perhaps the oldest and best State technical institute in Maharashtra, next to IIT Bombay and NIT Nagpur.
