24 MonthsThe two year M.A. in English programme offers a varied range of literatures written in English--covering popular and new literatures. The Master of Arts programme in English has been designed in such a way that it meets the global standards of Master’s Programme in English, offered in other national and international universities of repute. This programme aims to generate interest in literature, and helps to inculcate a spirit of critical enquiry, analytical and creative faculties in students. The programme begins with a basic introduction to English literature, its various sources and forms. A gamut of inter-disciplinary courses covers English Studies (novels, poetry and drama), Linguistics, Translation Studies, Gender Studies, World Literatures, Film Studies, etc. The students are also exposed to new areas of literature and literary studies including criticism and literary theory, that matches with the syllabus of UGC NET. The teaching-learning process ranges from interactive sessions, discussions, workshops and presentations. Educationists, scholars, critics, writers, poets, editors, corporate heads are invited for interactive sessions/ lectures to motivate and guide the students. The learners will also get opportunities to take discipline specific elective courses.
The candidate must have passed a Bachelor’s degree form a recognized University (with English literature as one of the majors).
Admissions are done on the basis of marks obtained in the qualifying examination.
