Barapada School of Engineering and Technical Institute (BSET) is a polytechnic institution recognized by AICTE that provides various diploma courses in engineering disciplines. The BSET is aimed at screening eligible applicants for technical courses through the admission process. The institute follows a systematic admission process that is done based on Diploma Entrance Test (DET) conducted by the State Council for Technical Education & Vocational Training, Odisha (SCTE & VT) and Directorate of Technical Education and Training (DTE&T) Odisha. Thus, the DET test is conducted annually, and it is the only option offered for students seeking admission into various diploma programs at BSET. 

This exam evaluates the skills aptitude and subject-related knowledge by accepting only qualified students into BSET. Admission templated around a common academic calendar; DET is mostly in the months that precede the start of a new academic year. In general, eligibility for diploma courses at BSET requires successful completion of 10th standard or equivalent from a recognized board. Additionally, applicants must have completed compulsory study of Mathematics and Science. Application Process

Admission to Barapada School of Engineering and Technology, Bhadrak, is a multi-step process. The following are the steps involved:

1. DET Application: Candidates must apply for the Diploma Entrance Test through the official website of SCTE & VT or DTE&T, Odisha. This mostly includes filling out the online application form and possibly paying an application fee.

2. Entrance Examination: Candidates are then required to appear for DET on a scheduled date at their designated examination centers. The subjects usually range from Mathematics and Science to general aptitude.

3. Announcement of Result: The conducting authority announces the result after the examination. Candidates can view their marks online with ranks.

2. Diploma in Civil Engineering- 90 seats
3. Diploma in Electrical Engineering- 68 seats
4. Diploma in Electronics and Telecommunication Engineering- 68 seats
5. Diploma in Computer Science and Engineering- 45 seats
6. Diploma in Information Technology- 30 seats

For admission into any of these programs, the candidates must qualify in DET for entry into counseling. The merit list will consist based on the DET score, and the criteria of eligibility have been met for the respective courses.
