ECGC Kolkata Admission 2025: Dates, Registration, Fees, Eligibility

Committed to quality education, the East Calcutta Girls College (ECGC), Kolkata. Today, it is considered one of the best colleges in Kolkata for women's education. The admission process for undergraduate and postgraduate courses is comprehensive. ECGC is affiliated with the University of Calcutta and accredited by the National Assessment and Accreditation Council (NAAC). ECGC's admission process is meant for selecting suitable candidates under different programs. There are total 20 courses offered by the college, 15 of which are for undergraduate students and 5 for postgraduate students, that consist of Arts, Science, and Commerce streams.

For undergraduate admission, candidates should have completed their 10+2 from a recognized board. The admission is made on the basis of the percentage obtained in the qualifying examination for various courses. For postgraduate admission, candidates should possess a bachelor's degree in the discipline concerned. Admission usually begins after the announcement of the 10+2 results for undergraduate courses and then after the announcement of graduation results for postgraduate courses. Based on this, candidates need to check the college website regularly for updates regarding admission dates and procedures. 

Application Process

The application process for East Calcutta Girls College is:

1. Visit the official college site to be updated about the admission notification.

2. Download the application form for the desired course and fill it out, taking care to fill in all details correctly.

3. It will be necessary to collect the required documents, which usually include:

• 10 and 12 standard marksheets (for UG courses) or graduation marksheet (for PG courses)
• Passport-size photographs
• Character certificate from the last school/college attended
• Category certificate (if applicable)
• Any additional documents as mentioned in the admission announcement

4. Submit the completed application form with all required papers to the college admission office before the due date.

5. Pay the application fee as described in the admission notification.

6. The college will scrutinize applications and will thereafter compile a merit list of applicants based on their academic performance and additional specifications for the particular course.

7. The candidates declared as selected will find their names on the college website or receive a notice through email or SMS.

8. Document verification followed the admission process by fee payment within the stipulated time for some courses, especially at the level of post graduate study.

9. For some of the courses, particularly at the postgraduate level, an entrance test or interview may be conducted by the college. Applicants are therefore to prepare for any additional selection activities as stated in the admission notification.

Degree wise Admission Process

BA Programs: E. C. College offers BA (Honours) in Philosophy, Sociology, Political Science, Economics, English, History, Education, and Bengali subjects. Admission to these programs is based on performance in 10+2 examinations with focus on relevant subjects.

B.Sc Programs: B.Sc provides honours courses under disciplines Computer Science, Botany, Geography, Economics, and Zoology. Students pursuing these programs need to have had Science in their 10+2 and meet the basic criteria given by the college.

B.Com Programs: B.Com has students undergoing study in general B.Com and B.Com (Honours). Admission is done based on an applicant's marks in Commerce or similar subjects at the 10+2 level.

MA Programs: Education and Geography are conferred as MA subjects. Eligibility to both programs is open for any applicant who has obtained a bachelor's degree in the requisite subject or any other associated field.

M.Sc Program: Geography pursues M.Sc under ECGC. Applicants are to submit their degree in Geography or a closely associated major.
