The university offers a total of 65 courses at the doctoral level which includes the PhD courses in different specialisations. The duration of these courses is 3 to 6 years. JNU PhD admissions are based on the entrance examination conducted by the NTA.

The university conducts counselling sessions for admissions to various undergraduate and postgraduate courses. Candidates must fill out the online application form. Seats will be allotted on the basis of performance in the entrance examination and cutoff marks criteria. For JNU Delhi B.Tech admission, candidates must apply for the JoSSA counselling.
