Government Polytechnic College, Baramulla, was set up in 2012 and is one of the premier technical colleges situated in Jammu and Kashmir. This affiliated college is recognised under AICTE and provides quality education in this field of engineering. Set in a vast piece of land that measures 7.5 acres, the college affords students and faculty a good learning atmosphere. The total number of students enrolled in the institute varies from 135 and faculty is 3, so no student is left alone because they pay individual attention to every student. At the moment, the college has two diploma courses demonstrating its specialised technical training.

The college has several facilities that effectively try to improve the learning abilities of the college students. The library fulfils the role of the knowledge centre: to compile information that a student may require to undertake his or her courses. Government Polytechnic College, Baramulla, has two full-time diploma programmes, each of a duration of three years. The Diploma in Electrical Engineering students are 60 students each year and for the Diploma in Automobile Engineering there is a capacity of admitting 30 students each year. The two courses are intended to equip the students with understanding and usable knowledge in the subjects studied. The total admission of students on all the courses is one hundred and thirty-five, in an effort to ensure that the college has the best student enrolment ratio with the instructors for the sake of improved quality learning.

Affiliated to the Board of Professional Entrance Examination of Jammu and Kashmir, the Government Polytechnic College Baramulla has separate admission procedures for every programme. Indicative students need to sit for an entrance exam set by BOPEE as a prerequisite before admission. This means that admissions are done based on standard and merit and other applicants get an equal chance without being influenced.
